won a major roofing project—beating<br />
out several non-union<br />
companies that bid lower—by making<br />
it clear that it was the only contractor<br />
capable of completing the job<br />
skillfully and on time.<br />
David Klein, owner of Flagship<br />
Roofing and Sheetmetal Co., Inc.,<br />
and Roofers Local 33 assured<br />
general contractor R.C. Anderson,<br />
LLC, that they would meet or<br />
exceed the quality requirements<br />
and schedule for the challenging<br />
distribution center project. Ultimately<br />
the project was completed<br />
on time and under budget, with<br />
zero accidents or injuries.<br />
The project, located in Fall River,<br />
MA, is the distribution and fulfillment<br />
center for a prominent online<br />
retailer. The challenges presented<br />
in roofing the behemoth structure<br />
were manifold. First there was the<br />
sheer size: 1.2 million square feet<br />
of roof, covering an area measuring<br />
1,780' x 560', a third of a mile long.<br />
Next was the aggressive schedule<br />
which took place during the New<br />
England winter with its unpredictable<br />
weather. On top of that, the<br />
project sits near the ocean where<br />
high winds make working conditions<br />
even more unstable.<br />
Flagship’s sales pitch was easy,<br />
