IT’S TIME<br />

FOR A REVOLUTION<br />

“I/YOU/WE NEED TO START WORKING<br />

OUT.” This is a very common statement that most<br />

people say and/or hear at some point. It happens every<br />

day - a physician tells a patient that they need to get some<br />

exercise to ward off potential chronic disease; a couple<br />

decides they want to start a fitness routine to get in shape<br />

together; someone feels as though their energy levels and<br />

productivity have slipped and know that physical activity<br />

can make them feel better and more confident. But for<br />

most, it ends there, as simply a thought or a statement.<br />

The CDC reports that only 21% of Americans meet the<br />

recommended levels of aerobic and strength training<br />

shown to decrease the risk for chronic disease and improve<br />

health markers. Research has shown that two of the biggest<br />

reasons for not taking the leap into exercise are lack of<br />

knowledge and the fear of being uncomfortable.<br />

with me individually and<br />

designed workouts specifically<br />

for me to do – workouts, at the<br />

age of 48, I never thought I<br />

could do. Taking part in VIVE’s<br />

many exercise classes they<br />

offer is my new lifestyle.<br />

It has always been VIVE’s mission to create an all-inclusive<br />

fitness environment where everyone is able to access the<br />

space, equipment, and expertise they need to reach their<br />

health and fitness goals. But according to the above statistics,<br />

8 out of 10 Americans have barriers that keep them from<br />

beginning an exercise program. VIVE’s Revolution program was<br />

developed as a way to reach those people experiencing the<br />

fear of being uncomfortable and those needing guidance to<br />

get started.<br />

Since its inception in 2015, our Revolution program has<br />

helped over 140 participants begin their fitness quest with<br />

professional support and guidance through a 60-day program.<br />

The program includes 16 sessions with a personal trainer and<br />

access to the facility and group exercise classes offered at<br />

<strong>Vive</strong> during the 60 days. Two nutrition consultations are also<br />

provided to ensure the participant is taking a more holistic<br />

approach to improving their health.<br />

This high degree of personal attention ensures that the client<br />

is able to make fitness and healthy eating habits a regular<br />

part of their lifestyle for the long term. Revolution trainer,<br />

Lindsay Marshall, says, “I love that Revolution allows me to<br />

help a client who might have never done any type of physical<br />

activity and is very intimidated by the gym environment to<br />

be comfortable enough to use VIVE’s facilities to improve his<br />

or her health and fitness. Seeing someone learn to create a<br />

lifelong habit of healthy choices is my biggest reward.” Many<br />

of the participants in the program have graduated to become<br />

regular members of VIVE and continue to work with their<br />

trainer for guidance and encouragement.<br />

With the upcoming holiday season, and the ensuing rush to<br />

get into shape in the New Year, VIVE’s Revolution program<br />

might just be the ticket to helping many people overcome<br />

the obstacles that have kept them from enjoying a healthy,<br />

fit lifestyle. Brent Oliver, Revolution coordinator, says, “I have<br />

seen Revolution change people’s lives first hand. When<br />

an individual spends 60 days in the atmosphere that VIVE<br />

provides, along with the guidance and support from our<br />

trainers and dietitians, and they acquire the proven habits<br />

of exercise and nutrition for the long-term, incredible things<br />

happen and goals are exceeded.”<br />
