Business Development The Business Development Team’s role is to increase capacity and capability of Harbour Sport by ensuring a specialised focus in the following areas: CHARITABLE TRUST FUNDING Ensuring Harbour Sport maximises its opportunities to secure charitable trust funding for new and existing initiatives with significant community impact. Harbour Sport, like many organisations, is reducing its dependency on gaming, particularly in the areas of core business. Harbour Sport uses charitable funding to increase the capability and capacity of sporting organisations within our region through multi-faceted programmes and projects. STRATEGIC COMMUNICATIONS Harbour Sport over the last 12 months has integrated two communication tools into the organisation. The creation and implementation of a Knowledge Management System (KMS) that drives our website has been a success. The website has become a major player in our communications to our community and its seamless integration with the KMS has reduced staff hours in this space. SugarCRM has been integrated into Harbour Sport and is providing a strong overview of all our relationships and activities with stakeholders. It allows all programmes and projects to be tracked from a single point and has reduced staff workload and increased the quality of the work in the community. Our social media presence is increasing as our media role becomes more defined internally. All our communications no longer take a blanket approach and now target messages to segmented market groups. The communication plan continues to focus on consistent messages. With all North Harbour sporting organisations dealing with 5 local boards and 1 central council, communication and strong personal relationships have become of even greater importance. Ensuring the right message is given to the right people is a cornerstone to achieving Harbour Sport’s outcomes. As our community continues to diversify it is important that Harbour Sport provides communication channels that allow our community to be updated and informed. DIVERSIFYING FUNDING STREAMS Sport NZ continues to be a significant funder of Harbour Sport but there is a strong focus on finding alternative streams of funding. Currently Harbour Sport has 36% of its funding from Sport NZ, approximately 25% from Council and Health and the other 35% is made up of a combination of gaming, sponsorship, tenants and event income. The last 12 months have been a very difficult economic time to find new partners but we continue to grow a diversified funding portfolio. PERFORMANCE MANAGEMENT Harbour Sport continued to focus on its performance management. This activity focuses on increasing employee engagement, aligning and measuring KPI’s to the strategic plan, living organisation values, and developing our people. Our staff satisfaction survey results placed Harbour Sport in the top 10% of companies to work for in New Zealand. 14 “WHERE TOO MUCH SPORT IS NEVER ENOUGH”
Business Development SPORT NZ Sport NZ is the major partner and funder of Harbour Sport. Their vision is: Everyone, everyday, enjoying and excelling through sport and recreation. Their mission is: Creating a sport and recreation environment where more New Zealanders participate, support and win. Sport NZ partners with Harbour Sport in recognition of the extensive networks, stakeholders and relationships the Trust has in the community, as well as the good reputation Harbour Sport has in the region. BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT SportNZ is the key funder for Harbour Sport. We are committed to achieve SportNZ outcomes within our region building the capability and capacity of sport and recreation. Harbour Sport is a funding partner of Auckland Council, part of the legacy contract with the North Shore City Council. We are also funding partners with the Rodney Local Board and Hibiscus and Bays Local Board which is the legacy from the old Rodney District Council. Harbour Sport continues to provide services to the sport community to facilitate the growth of sport and recreation and increase the uptake of sporting lifestyles. All 5 local boards have identified Harbour Sport as an important stakeholder in helping to shape their respective communities by using sport and recreation to develop health, social and economic benefits, as well as providing an enhanced sense of identity and wellbeing. The Health Sector continues to be an important partner to Harbour Sport. The Ministry of Health has invested in Harbour Sport through the Active Families and GRx programmes as well as the WDHB through Pacific Active Families. Harbour Sport appreciates and values the support of Charitable Trust and Gaming funders who have provided funding for the many important sport and recreation programs and projects throughout the year.
