Many families and seniors find RV camping
the best way of travel. Cheaper than staying in
hotels and dining at restaurants, RVs also afford
the opportunity to see the beauty of our country
a flying trip cannot provide. In addition to the
beautiful mountains and mesas, southern Colorado
and northern New Mexico offer a myriad
of outdoor experiences and family activities. A
new reason to RV is the privacy and convenience
of having a “home away from home” to enjoy

Huerfano County RV camping
The friendly community of Walsenburg, CO,
once a booming coal mining town, boasts a coal
mining museum, art galleries, great restaurants,
Walsenburg Wild Waters, and many quaint
shops. With level sidewalks that make walking
easy and plenty of benches, it is an easy-going
rest stop at the intersection of Colorado Highways
160 and 10, and Interstate 25. The Country
Host Motel and RV Park, just north of town, offers
a dump station and affordable rentals. Reliable
repairs are available nearby at Birco RV Parts
and Service. Need to check your email? Stop in
at the fabulous Spanish Peaks Library on north
Walsen.
West of Walsenburg, visit Lathrop State Park,
Colorado's first state park. At 1,594 acres with
103 camping sites that can accommodate motor
homes, trailers, and tents, Lathrop's Martin and
Horseshoe Lakes offer a variety of boating, fishing,
water skiing, power and sail boating, and
swimming. Catfish, bass, walleye, trout, and blue
gill thrive in both lakes. The 9-hole familyfriendly
Walsenburg Public Golf Course lies just
east of the park, with affordable green fees and
magnificent vistas.
