HORSE OF THE YEAR SHOW 2016
Katie Brown and Tonlyn Tigger Two
Minns Greenholme Caitlin to gain 8th
place.
The Welsh sections C and D classes
were as popular as ever. It was clearly an
unexpected win for Katie Brown on her
own Tonlyn Tigger Two with a reaction
that couldn’t help but make spectators
smile. Second place went to Lynuck the
Showman who has had a successful first
season with Producer Aimee Devane.
Menai Thomas continued his consistent
track record with third place and was
also in the workers class the following
day.
Renvarg the Mystic and Lisa
Wigglesworth completed their fairy-tale
year taking the top spot in the Section
D class. Lisa had sold the stunning
Chestnut stallion through the Brightwells
Autumn Welsh Pony and Cob sales in
2014, and purchased him back earlier this
year. They went on to win the Ridden Cob
Stallion class at the 2016 Royal Welsh
and later qualified for HOYS at Moreton-
In-the-Marsh. Second place went to
another Brightwells sales graduate,
Pantydwr Mister Nice Guy and Ashley
Peers with Karen Johnson and Menai
Eurostar taking 3rd. Larnleighs Dictator
took 8th place owned and bred by Derby
based Nicki Oldershaw and ridden by
Taryna Shields.
Thursday was the turn of the small
breeds with the Dartmoor/Exmoor and
Shetland class first up. Chloe Chubb’s
dream came true as she was pulled
forwards to win the class on Lynda
Calcutt’s bay stallion Shilstone Rocks

Payne and
Cadlan Valley
Buzby
North Westerly. Local rider Megan Hewitt
took 6th place on Dunmere Woodruff.
The Section B class saw Katy Marriot-
Payne claim her second spot in the
International Arena later on in the day
with the lovely Cadlan Valley Buzby.
The Cadlan Valley stud have had a
tremendous year with four ponies at
HOYs, all in the final placings. Local rider
and recent feature star Nicole Wayman,
rode Cadlan Valley Bentley at his second
visit to HOYS to take 7th place. Lucy
Glover finished her HOYS off with a 4th
place on the ever consistent Carwood
Shimmering Gold.
The Mountain and Moorland
championship is always a great spectacle,
and this year it proved very popular with
over 2,000 people tuning into watch one
social live stream alone. Katy Marriott-
Payne finally achieved a dream when
she rode down the centre line of the
International Arena on the beautiful
B stallion Cadlan Valley Buzby with
Hannah Horton and Slieve Bloom taking
the Reserve title.
