Prime Insurance Company honoured
at 16th ICAB National Awards
ULAB IEEE Tech Fest
2016 organised
The department of Computer
Science and Engineering (CSE)
of the University of Liberal Arts
Bangladesh (ULAB) and the ULAB
IEEE student branch organised a
three day ULAB IEEE Tech Fest
’16. The event commenced on
November 28, 2016 and is the first
major IEEE event at ULAB.
Pro vice-chancellor of
ULAB Prof H M Jahirul Haque
inaugurated the event. Prof Dr
Sazzad Hossain, head of the
CSE department, welcomed the
special guests - Towhid Hossain,
managing director and CEO
of FIFO Tech, Syed Asif Aziz,
business development manager of
ACCA Bangladesh and Wellington
Perera, Microsoft DX director of
South East Asia New Markets. Prof
Dr S M Mahbubur Rahman, adviser
of the Electrical and Electronic
Engineering Department of
ULAB, Sajidul Haque Chowdhury,
executive of PeopleNTech LLC,
and team members of TechShop
Bangladesh - Jubaer Al Noman,
Mahmudul Hasan Rony and Tazul
Islam - were also present at the
inauguration ceremony of the
fest. •
On November 29, 2016, Prime
Insurance Company Limited
received the third prize for the
“Best Presented Annual Report
2015” in the Insurance Sector at
the 16th Institute of Chartered
Accountants of Bangladesh
(ICAB) National Awards, held
at the Pan Pacific Sonargaon
Hotel.
Mohammodi Khanam, CEO
of Prime Insurance Company
Limited, received the award from
Commerce minister Tofail Ahmed
MP. The ICAB awards are given
upon extensive evaluation of
the financial reports of all listed
companies in different industries,
and are recognitions of excellence
in corporate governance.
This year, ICAB awarded 24
organisations in 10 categories for
their performance in 2015.

also present at the award giving
ceremony.
While receiving the award,

BRAC Institute of Languages launches German language course
The BRAC Institute of Languages
(BIL), BRAC University (BRACU)
has launched a German language
course, a noteworthy addition to
the list of language courses that
BIL offers. The course-launching
seminar for dissemination of
information regarding this
initiative
was held at
the BRACU
auditorium
on Thursday,
November 24,
2016.
In her
welcome
speech at the
seminar, Lady
Syeda Sarwat
Abed, director,
BIL of BRACU,
emphasised
the importance
of learning
the German
language
in order to
pursue higher
education and
explore career opportunities in
Germany. Other speakers at the
seminar shared their valuable
experiences on life in Germany
and provided an overview of
higher education in German
universities, more particularly in
engineering subjects. They shared
information on how to prepare
for the admission in German
universities and opportunities
that the country offers by pointing
out the increasing number of
Bangladeshi students in Germany
every year. The seminar was
educating for the attendees, who
were mostly students, researchers
and faculty members of BRACU,
as the speakers highlighted the
significance of learning one of the
major languages of the world.
Germany offers numerous
Master’s programmes where
English is the medium of
instruction, and BIL promised
to help students enrolled in the
German language course to also
prepare for their IELTS. The
speakers also informed how the
Embassy of the Federal Republic
of Germany in Dhaka would assist
students in the admission process.
Currently, BIL offers Chinese,
Korean, Spanish, French and
Arabic language courses. The
institute promotes learning
languages among the students
with a view to expand students’
academic and career opportunities
and broaden their horizons.
Those who shared their
thoughts in the seminar included
Shehla Riaz Khan Bangash,
German language instructor at
BIL; Rumana Kabir, information
and office manager from German
Academic Exchange Service
(DAAD); Ramita Atiq, culture
and education officer, Culture
Section, and Mujtoba Ahmed
Murshed, former political adviser
at the German embassy; Sharif
Hossain, head of Languages of
Goethe Institute Bangladesh; and
Majumder Fazle Haider, lecturer at
BRACU.•
