A new documentary is shedding light on<br />
a medical condition causing controversy<br />
among medical professionals and, subsequently,<br />
causing frustration for parents<br />
seeking help for their children.<br />
Produced by Emmy-nominated film<br />
director Tim Sorel, the film, “My Kid is Not<br />
Crazy,” puts the spotlight on a little known<br />
medical disorder nicknamed PANDAS.<br />
The sweet sounding acronym stands for<br />
Pediatric Autoimmune Neuropsychiatric<br />
Disorders Associated with Strep, an<br />
ailment that is anything but sweet. Triggered<br />
by an undiagnosed strep infection,<br />
PANDAS results from a misdirected<br />
immune response that results in inflammation<br />
within a child’s brain. In turn, and<br />
sometimes literally overnight, a child with<br />
PANDAS begins to exhibit life-changing<br />
symptoms such as OCD, anxiety, tics, personality<br />
changes, a decline in math and<br />
