midst of the second-longest winning streak
in women’s basketball history, trailing only
their own 90-game run from 2008-10.
Collier, at press time, was averaging
18.2 points and has proved to be close to
unstoppable when she gets the ball in her
hands, averaging 64.9 percent with most of
her baskets in close.
College men’s soccer
De Smet Jesuit graduate Ben Yeager,
a sophomore at Saint Louis University,
earned an Atlantic 10 Conference Player of
the Week nod earlier this season.
Yeager totaled 11 saves in earning the two
wins in goal that propelled him to Player of
the Week status. Against Rhode Island, he
made five saves for his second-consecutive
shutout. He, likewise, was sharp against
George Mason, making six saves including
several dazzling stops. Mason’s only tally
was a SLU own goal that came in the 36th
minute of that game.
Yeager finished the season with a 5-2
record. He recorded 18 saves and had a
1.18 goals-against average.
A four-year varsity letterwinner at De
Smet, Yeager was a first-team All-Conference
selection as a senior after registering
six wins, five shutouts and a 1.24 GAA.
Yeager was a member of De Smet’s 2011
state championship team.

Lindenwood Senior
Xhovani Dokaj recently
was selected to the
D2CCA All-American
third-team. Dokaj was a
second-team All-American
as a sophomore at
Dokaj
Qunicy in 2014.
The All-American honors for Dokaj, a
CBC graduate, come after he was tabbed
as the Central Region Player of the Year
and a first-team All-Region performer. In
addition, Dokaj was selected as the MIAA
Player of the Year and a member of the
MIAA first-team.
Dokaj set the MIAA single-season
record with 16 goals this season, while
also leading the conference with 37
points. This season, Dokaj found the back
of the net in 12 of the 19 games for the
Lions, which wrapped up the 2016 season
with a 13-4-2 record and appeared in the
central regional final match against Fort
Hays State.
At CBC, Dokaj was a member of the
Missouri Class 3 soccer state champions.
He also earned All-State and All-Midwest
honors and competed in the High School
All-American Game in Alabama.
St. Louis Baseball Writers Dinner
The 59th Annual St. Louis Baseball
Writers Dinner will honor two icons of the
St. Louis Cardinals – New Athens native
Whitey Herzog and Germantown native
Red Schoendienst.
Herzog, who managed the 1982 Cardinals
to the World Series, will receive the Red
Medal, named for Schoendienst. “The Redhead,”
meanwhile, will be honored for managing
the 1967 Cardinals to the World Series.
The dinner will be at 6:30 p.m. on Sunday,
Jan. 15 at the St. Louis Union Station Hotel.
Tickets are $150 each, with tables of 10

In addition to Herzog and Schoendienst,
the dinner will honor other members of
the 1967 Cardinals team, including Bob
Gibson, Lou Brock, Tim McCarver, Mike
Shannon, Bobby Tolan and Ted Savage.
Members of the 2016 Cardinals team also
will be feted, including Matt Holliday, Aledmys
Diaz, Matt Carpenter, Stephen Piscotty,
Adam Wainwright and Jonathan Broxton.
The event begins with a reception outside
the hotel’s ballroom from 5-6:15 p.m.
While a lot of things change over the years, some things
don’t. And getting older doesn’t mean you have to stop
doing what you love. So we encourage our residents to
