$40,000 New York, NY<br />

To support Eiko Otake's solo project, "A Body in Places." Designed <strong>for</strong> non-<strong>the</strong>atrical spaces where no barriers<br />

separate per<strong>for</strong>mer from viewer, Otake has per<strong>for</strong>med in spaces as impressive as 30th Street Station in<br />

Philadelphia and as intimate as library stacks. Using aspects of her current Danspace Plat<strong>for</strong>m as a point of<br />

departure, Eiko now plans to investigate how saturation of certain parameters might foster <strong>the</strong> work's<br />

effectiveness.Otake will per<strong>for</strong>m in such venues as Topaz <strong>Arts</strong> in Queens, <strong>the</strong> Ca<strong>the</strong>dral of Saint John <strong>the</strong> Divine<br />

in Manhattan, and in o<strong>the</strong>r New York City landmarks such as <strong>the</strong> Met/Breuer Building and The Cloisters, as part<br />

of <strong>the</strong> Per<strong>for</strong>ma <strong>2017</strong> Festival.<br />

International Association of Blacks in Dance, Inc. (aka IABD)<br />

$15,000 Silver Spring, MD<br />

To support, <strong>the</strong> 29th annual IABD Conference and Festival. IABD, <strong>the</strong> only national ga<strong>the</strong>ring of black dance<br />

professionals in <strong>the</strong> United States will take place in Dallas, with host organization Dallas Black Dance Theatre.<br />

For several days, executive and artistic directors, artists, company managers, choreographers, presenters,<br />

teachers, historians, agents, and service providers will engage in networking, in<strong>for</strong>mation sharing, professional<br />

development, panels, workshops, discussions, as well as per<strong>for</strong>mances. The <strong>2017</strong> IABD Conference provides<br />

experiential hands-on learning, explores and embraces <strong>the</strong> diversity, partnerships, and technology of <strong>the</strong> dance<br />

field, while inspiring new thinking and ideas.<br />

Irvine Barclay Theatre Operating Co. (aka Irvine Barclay Theatre or The Barclay)<br />

$20,000 Irvine, CA<br />

To support <strong>the</strong> Dance and Movement Portfolio, which will include <strong>the</strong> presentation of international and national<br />

artists. Artists to be presented may include Aspen Santa Fe Ballet, Herve Koubi, and Savion Glover. In addition,<br />

<strong>the</strong> <strong>the</strong>ater will present a series of world premieres by emerging choreographers Ido Tadmor, Yin Yue, and<br />

Jennifer Backhaus. Education and outreach activities will include master classes and discussions at schools and<br />

dance organizations. The project also will include residencies, creation of new works, cirque and flamenco<br />

presentations, educational outreach and audience engagement activities.<br />

Jacob's Pillow Dance Festival, Inc. (aka Jacob's Pillow)<br />

$100,000 Becket, MA<br />

To support <strong>the</strong> presentation of dance artists as well as a variety of education and outreach activities. Creative<br />

Development Residencies will support <strong>the</strong> development of new work and <strong>the</strong> next generation of dance-makers.<br />

The artists involved may include John Heginbotham, Camille A. Brown, Compagnie Marie Chouinard, and Ballet<br />

Northwest. The project will reach large nationwide audiences of both dance newcomers and aficionados, and<br />

will offer multiple entry points <strong>for</strong> learning about dance through <strong>the</strong> Pillow's extensive Audience Engagement<br />

Programs. All project activities will take place at The Pillow's 220-acre <strong>National</strong> Historic Landmark site in Becket,<br />

Massachusetts.<br />

Jessica Lang Dance, Inc (aka Jessica Lang Dance)<br />

$10,000 Long Island City, NY<br />

To support <strong>the</strong> development of curriculum and training of faculty at <strong>the</strong> Jessica Lang Dance Center. Programs<br />

will include spring and fall semester classes <strong>for</strong> <strong>the</strong> children's division (ages 2-10), adult dance classes,a preprofessional<br />

one-week Winter Workshop, and a three-week Summer Intensive <strong>for</strong> teens and pre-professional<br />

students.Jessica Lang Dance will also offer a fall workshop focused on choreography and <strong>the</strong> technical aspects of<br />

dance such as lighting, set design, costuming, and productions management. The goal is to develop a strong<br />

curriculum <strong>for</strong> <strong>the</strong> center that incorporates Jessica Lang's philosophy and vision into <strong>the</strong> teaching of dance<br />

through joyful exploration and an emphasis on developing strong daily creative habits.<br />
