THE LIBRARIANS Vol:03 No:03 2016 Activities of Read & Write Pakistan Reported by Zaheer Ahmad Read & Write Pakistan's dynamic Campaign "Build Little Free Library Around You" To promote literacy, reading culture and love of reading are major objectives of Read & Write Pakistan. Read & Write Pakistan since its inception initiating such programs, which are best serving these objectives. We started different campaigns and programs like Ao Aik Kitaan Parain, Reading demonstration programs, Mobile libraries and building community libraries across Pakistan etc., which yielded best results and helped us in the promotion of reading culture in Pakistan. On her irst birthday (August 22, 2016), Read & Write Pakistan started another irst kind of campaign in Pakistan titled as "Build Little Free Library Around You" in order to build a free book exchange program. This little free library works under the principal of “Take a Book. Leave a Book". This initiative will help us in building sense of sharing knowledge, creativity and wisdom across generations. This wonderful initiative will share the joys of reading and create lasting connections inside our community. So let us all join hands together with Read & Write Pakistan in this dynamic purposeful campaign to promote reading culture, literacy, spirit of generosity, strong connection with neighborhoods and literary horizons around you. Inauguration of two Little Free Library Read & Write Pakistan inaugurated two “Little Free Library” on August 21, 2016 at Tramri Chowk, Irfanabad, UC-19, Islamabad under the umbrella of our campaign "Build Little Free Library Around You” Ch. Manzoor Hussain Chairman UC-19 was the chief guest and inaugurated the Free Little Library along with Capt.Yousaf Vice Chairman UC-19, Ch. Ameen, Tasif Satti and Junaid Hashmi. Local members of the area were very happy to have this little heaven around them and praised the Read & Write Pakistan for this wonderful step which indeed will promote reading culture, literacy, spirit o f g e n e ro s i t y, s t ro n g c o n n e c t i o n s w i t h neighborhoods and literary horizons around them. Mr. Zahir Khan and Ali Aamer Javed gifted books for both these little free libraries. We are very thankful to both of them for their great contribution. Read & Write Pakistan is thankful to Mr. Amjad Hussain Alvi, Muhammad Usman, Ali Aamer Javed and Zahir Khan for supervising this project. 02
THE LIBRARIANS Vol:03 No:03 2016 Workshop on Tools and Techniques to Curb Plagiarism Reported by Zaheer Ahmad Pakistan Librarian Welfare Organization (PLWO) Headquarters and The Government College Women University Faisalabad (GCWUF) jointly organized a workshop on Tools and Techniques to Curb Plagiarism on November 22, 2016 at Government College Women University Faisalabad. A r o u n d 6 0 s c h o l a r s , r e s e a r c h e r s a n d representatives from academia participated in the workshop. Prof. Dr. Naureen Aziz Qureshi, Vice Chancellor GCWUF highlighted the importance of this workshops and said that such programs provide researchers a platform to exchange their ideas and different issues in research process. Mr. Zaheer Ahmad while speaking on the occasion highlighted the PLWO's role in the capacity buildings of the researchers and assured continuity of such programs to strengthen the capabilities of the scholars, researchers and information professionals. He also congratulated Ms. Misbah B a s h i r a n d M r. M u s h t a q A h m a d ; P LWO representatives in Faisalabad region, for organizing this well representative and successful workshop. Mr. Muhammad Asif Munir, resource person of the workshop, delivered a detailed lecture on the topic. He also conducted a mock session to answers different questions raised by the participants. Visit of Read & Write Pakistan team to The Creative School Read & Write Pakistan team visited The Creative School, Sheikhupura on December 6, 2016. Mr. Muhammad Jameel-ur-Rehman, Honorary Patronin-chief of TCS welcomed the delegation. It was wonderful experience to interact with students and faculty members. Read & Write Pakistan team met with faculty members and brie ly explained and discussed different techniques, which can inculcate reading habits among students. It was highly motivating moment when students were commenting on stories which were demonstrated on projector by faculty members. A quiz compitetion was also arranged and books were distributed to top ive students to increase the interest of kids in reading and writing. Students were highly motivated after getting this demonstration. Read & Write Pakistan team includes Mr. Zaheer Ahmad, Mr. Qaiser Iqbal and Mr. Asif Bilal. 03
