COOPERATIVE VALUES Self – help - obligates or encourages the individuals of cooperative to satisfy their own collective needs through the use of their own efforts and resources. Self – responsibility - is the state where co-operatives provide education and training for their members, employees, coordinators and managers to effectively perform their duties and responsibilities for the development of their co-operatives. Democracy - is a philosophy or governance in which the decisions are controlled by the majority of its members. Equality - is a symbolic value of the fact that all individuals in the co-operative are equal as a human – being. Equity - is the quality of being fair in the relationship between and among individuals in cooperative through the manner or exercising the authority over person. Solidarity - is an essential characteristic of successful co-operatives where it refers to the unity of feeling, action and to the respect of individual person to the one they can relate Honesty - the reality of being honest that establishes a good relation among person in cooperative who will both experience and benefit from the truth. Openness - this value refers to the transparency and lack of secrecy to the info and knowledge to the cooperative. Social responsibility - an ethical framework and the most relevant to the public image which suggests that the cooperative has an obligation to the community which it serves and beyond the cooperative works for betterment of the condition of the society. Caring for others - this refers to the value that each individual co-operation and all the cooperative have an obligation to act in such a way that they pro-actively show kindness for others. 3
