MMoCA Nights
Save the date for two upcoming MMoCA Nights celebrations.
MMoCA Nights are held in conjunction
with exhibition openings, film screenings, and other special
events. The evenings feature live music, complimentary
seasonal hors d’oeuvres from Fresco, a cash bar, and
engaging visual art programs. The evenings are always
free for MMoCA members/$10 for non-members.
MMoCA Nights are sponsored by Newcomb Construction
Company and The Alexander Company; with
additional support from Fresco and media support from
Isthmus.
Friday, June 3 • 6–9 pm
Come to MMoCA on the first Friday in June to enjoy the
opening of four new exhibitions: Claire Stigliani: Half-
Sick of Shadows, Our Good Earth, Compassionate Eye: The
Art of Frances Myers, and All-Licensed Fool: Animations by
Allison Schulnik and Wong Ping.
Claire Stigliani will discuss her work at 6:30 pm in
the lecture hall. Stigliani is known for her mixed-media
drawings and paintings that fuse together references to
fairytales, autobiography, and pop culture to explore
contemporary notions of femininity. For her solo show
at MMoCA, the artist transforms her two-dimensional
paintings into three-dimensional, miniaturized puppet
sets, which she then uses to create loosely narrative videos.
The evening will also feature live music from The
Kissers —with a fresh, original Celtic sound—in the
rooftop sculpture garden.
Under the Influence

Experience MMoCA after-hours with Under the
Influence. Begin the evening with a brief discussion
of art featured in one of MMoCA’s current exhibitions.
Then, move to the museum’s education workshop to
enjoy food and beverage pairings from Fresco as you
create your own masterpiece influenced by the works
you’ve just seen.
August 11: Enjoy a summer night in MMoCA’s
rooftop sculpture garden. Participants will explore Our
Good Earth before moving up to MMoCA’s rooftop to
enjoy pairings from Fresco while creating art inspired
by nature.
Doors open at 6 pm. Program begins at 6:30 pm.

Friday, August 19 • 6–9 pm
On the evening of Friday, August 19, guests will have a
final opportunity to enjoy the main galleries exhibition
Our Good Earth. This exhibition draws from the museum’s
permanent collection, and features works in which
artists explore the natural world. At 6:30 pm Professor
Paul Robbins, director of the Nelson Institute for Environmental
Studies, will lead a conversation about earth's
rapid environmental changes. Fresh Hops will play live,
high energy music in the rooftop sculpture garden, and
Fresco will pass flavorful hors d’oeuvres.
Annual Meeting
The MMoCA Board of Trustees held the Annual
Meeting on May 2, 2016. MMoCA director
Stephen Fleischman reviewed highlights from 2015-16
and previewed 2016-17. Fleischman thanked retiring
Board Member Jan DeAtley and outgoing Board
President Jim Yehle.
Three new Trustees were welcomed: Bryan Chan,
Oscar Mireles, and Bret Newcomb. 2016-2017
Board Officers were elected: Rick Phelps, President;
Joe Alexander, Vice-President; Jason Knutson, Vice-
President; Leslie Smith III, Vice-President; Kathie
Nichols, Secretary; and John Sylla, Treasurer.
Valerie Kazamias, Langer Society Chair, announced
new Langer Life Fellows Fred and Jana Bartlit, and Nick
and Judy Topitzes.
