39. Provisions
In 1992 the Council’s previous insurer, Municipal Mutual Insurance (MMI) declared that it would be going into “run
off” which is similar to a company going into administration. Control of MMI has now passed to a Scheme
Administrator who has implemented a “Scheme of Arrangement”. The provision for future claims has been
calculated as £83,000 as at 31 March 2016. This sum can be revised in future years as further information
becomes available.
A settlement has been reached with a group of Property Search Companies and a provision has been established
for the claimants’ costs.
The Council has made a provision of £3,238,000 for business rate appeals based on its best estimates of the
actual liability as at 31 March 2016. £2,503,100 has been identified as a long-term provision. See Note 52 for
further details.
