Microsoft: 2016 Will Be the Year Of
AI
Microsoft is applying artificial
intelligence to create detailed maps
illustrating population density and the
access to the internet across the world.
This should help Microsoft bring
internet to parts of the globe that are
without access. Microsoft has analyzed
20 countries and 21.6 million square
kilometers amounting to 350TB of
data.
Microsoft is also reported to be
creating deep learning AI which aims
to recover out what matters to
Microsoft users. Microsoft is definitely
not new to the AI game. In 2010, it
introduced facial recognition
technology that could distinguish
people in photos, and in 2013,
Microsoft dedicated a lab to AI
research and also recruited deep
learning experts to set up the AI
headquarters. Microsoft says its design
for AI is to personalize what matters to
each user, populating timelines with
things they genuinely care about rather
than people and places they’d opt not
to look.
