at <strong>the</strong> municipality <strong>of</strong> Lazi located at <strong>the</strong><br />

sou<strong>the</strong>rn part <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> island. Power Barge<br />

113 came from M<strong>in</strong>doro and is basically<br />

used to augment <strong>the</strong> generation <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong><br />

diesel power plants dur<strong>in</strong>g <strong>the</strong> peak hours<br />

and ano<strong>the</strong>r Power Barge 116 <strong>in</strong>stalled at<br />

Larena, <strong>Siquijor</strong>.<br />

As <strong>of</strong> July 2009, <strong>the</strong> <strong>Prov<strong>in</strong>ce</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Siquijor</strong><br />

Electric Cooperative (PROSIELCO), <strong>the</strong><br />

island’s distribution system, was able to<br />

provide electrical connections to 15,047<br />

households, which comprised 87.1 percent<br />

<strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> total households <strong>of</strong> 17,285. The<br />

rema<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g 13 percent are not served with<br />

electricity. In terms <strong>of</strong> barangays served,<br />

134 out <strong>of</strong> 134 barangays or 100 percent<br />

are served by PROSIELCO.<br />

Cluster<strong>in</strong>g <strong>of</strong> houses and accessibility<br />

<strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> prov<strong>in</strong>ce are factors that affect <strong>the</strong><br />

provision <strong>of</strong> power l<strong>in</strong>es. Thus, electrical<br />

power is well provided <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> two primary<br />

growth centers <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> prov<strong>in</strong>ce, which are<br />

<strong>the</strong> municipalities <strong>of</strong> Larena and <strong>Siquijor</strong>.<br />

The prov<strong>in</strong>ce <strong>of</strong> <strong>Siquijor</strong> has an average<br />

power consumption <strong>of</strong> 1.6 mega watts per<br />

hour and has a capacity to generate 1.77<br />

mega watts per hour which entails 0.11<br />

mega watt per hour <strong>of</strong> surplus power.<br />

There were 16,542 electrical connections<br />

<strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> prov<strong>in</strong>ce <strong>of</strong> <strong>Siquijor</strong> as <strong>of</strong> 2009.<br />

These were predom<strong>in</strong>antly residential (81<br />

percent), followed by commercial establishments<br />

(10 percent), streetlights (5 percent),<br />

public build<strong>in</strong>gs (4 percent) and <strong>in</strong>dustrial<br />
