Wrestler Grado and Emmerdale’s
Kelvin Star at Ex-Celt’s Charity Lunch
Wrestler Grado attends the John Hartson Foundation golf day launch Insane Fight Club wrestler Grado
has been appointed as the Foundation’s newest ambassador. Grado – whose catchphrase is ‘It’s yersel’ –
will be helping us promote the Foundation and our #knowyourballs campaign in a bid to raise awareness
of the symptoms of testicular cancer.
The 27-year-old is looking forward to his first official
engagement as ambassador – which is a voluntary role –
at our ladies lunch, which takes place at Mar Hall Golf and
Spa resort, Bishopton, on Sunday 6 September.
He’ll be joined by Emmerdale actor Kelvin Fletcher, who
plays Andy Sugden in the long-running soap. The event
will be hosted by Lisa Hague, partner of Celtic striker Kris
Commons, and Clyde 1 DJ Gina McKie. Top Scots band The
Cartel are also performing.
Grado – whose real name is Graeme Stevely – said: “There’s
no polite way to say this – I’ll be talking balls to the ladies
as it’s just as important to spread the word about testicular
cancer to the girls as it is to the guys. There’s no reason
why they can’t help their partners check their testicles for
any lumps or other worrying symptoms and help spread the
word to their fathers, brothers, sons and cousins – it really
is that important.
“I’m looking forward to the lunch and hope lots of ladies will
come along and meet me and Kelvin, who seems like a top bloke. I’m honoured to have been appointed
ambassador to the John Hartson Foundation and I’m going to make sure I take every opportunity possible
to promote the fantastic work they do and enourage
men and women not to by shy about talking about
testicles and checking for problems.”

Grado, who is from Stevenston, Ayrshire, found fame
in the BBC’s Insane Fight Club documentary which
lifted the lid on the brutal world of British professional
wrestling. He has also starred in Glasgow soap River
City and spoof police reality show the Scot Squad.
John said: “Grado’s a great guy and has already
shown us so much support as all our ambassadors
and patrons do by giving up their time and putting
in so much effort to help us. If anyone sums up our
motto, Grab Life by the Balls, it’s him and while we’re
putting across a serious message, we look forward
to lots of laughs along the way.”
Our first Grab Life by the Balls ladies lunch takes
place on Sunday, September 6, from noon to 6pm,
at Mar Hall Golf and Spa Resort, Bishopton, and
includes a cocktail and cupcake on arrival, a threecourse
meal, fashion show and market place. Tickets
are priced £500 per table of 10 or £55 per person.

Gryffe Scottish
Country Dance Club
We shall be starting our winter
dancing once again on Thursday 10
September at 8pm in Kilbarchan
Guide Centre. The class will run
through until 17 December finishing
with a wee party night.
New dancers are welcome to come
along and if you can put up with us, we shall certainly
do our best to ease you in gently and make you very
welcome. Cost is £3 per night. Contact Les Lambert

Hotel Transylvania
2 Tour
To celebrate the launch of the second instalment in
the Hotel Transylvania franchise, in cinemas across
the UK on October 16, with previews on October 2, 3,
10 & 11, Sony Pictures will be conducting a national
tour of some of the biggest shopping centres.
The tour will visit intu Braehead on Saturday 5th of
September and as part of a day of fun activities,
children will be given the opportunity to meet and
have their photos taken with Dracula, Frankenstein,
Johnny, Mavis and Murray from the film. Families
will receive their photo keepsake of the day in a
personalised Hotel Transylvania frame to take away.
Other activities will include the Unlucky Dip game,
Mummy wrapping and the Howl Booth. Those that
attend the stand will be able to watch the film trailer
and footage in 3D and have the chance to win
fantastic prize packages from Visit Romania and
Chessington World of Adventures.
