1st Houston and Crosslee
Scout Group
The group held a very successful presentation night at the end of June
which was very well attended by both children from all the sections as well
as parents and grandparents.
A number of awards
were presented
by the new District
Commissioner
Ian Hunter on the
night to each of the
sections, including
best patrols and
best overall scout
and explorers
scout. The evening
also showcased the
highlights from all
visits and activities
that the sections
participated in over
Record Number of Twins Start
Inverclyde Primary Schools
the past year. Each of the section leaders presented a slide show which
was well received by all. The evening ended with a coffee evening and
drinks and sweets for the boys and girls.
A number of the explorer section boys were also taking part in the camping
holiday to Switzerland
at the end of July.
More on this trip will be
included next months
edition.
It is expected that the
groups AGM will take
place in August and
as part of the ongoing
running of the Houston
group, we are actively
looking for parents to
help out by joining the
committee. Anyone
interested should
speak with a leader at
registration night.
A new record 19 sets of twins have begun their education at Inverclyde
Council’s primary schools.
The number could have been even higher if the parents of another two sets
had not decided to defer sending their children to school for another year.
Education & Communities Convener Councillor Terry Loughran said: “Every
year we seem to have double-figures – no pun intended - of twins starting
schools in Inverclyde and 2015 is no exception.
I am delighted to be able to welcome them as they prepare to join their
new classmates in their new schools and I am sure they will have a huge
amount of fun.
We have some of the best teachers working in some of the best schools
in the country and thanks to the support of parents and the wider school
communities we maintain high standards of learning across the board.
I have always said – and I know it is a cliché – that our children are
Inverclyde’s future as well as our biggest asset.”
The twins gathered at Ardgowan Primary School in Greenock which has just
undergone a £6 million refurbishment in time for the new school session as
part of Inverclyde Council’s £270 million Schools Estate Programme.
Provost Robert
Moran was also on
hand to wish them
well for next week.
He said: “The first
day at school is a big
deal for any child and
I think it is wonderful
these youngsters
will be able to share
the experience
with their brother
or sister. They’ll be Seeing Double - Inverclyde’s Twins
joining another 54
sets of twins who are already in primary schools across Inverclyde so it is
likely to be another challenge for teachers to tell them apart.”
