Planning: I sincerely hope that all constituents have had a
good summer, despite the pretty atrocious weather. The end
of the summer has seen a number of prospective planning
applications appear relevant to both Kilbarchan and
Lochwinnoch which I would like to inform villagers about.
Firstly, in the Park View area of Kilbarchan, at Branscroft,
there is a pre-application declaration of interest from Wallace
Land Ltd, who will be proposing to build a new residential
development at Branscroft. Similarly, at the Johnshill area
of Lochwinnoch a company called Leith Planning Ltd are
interested in building a new residential development at the
top of the village, but no formal application has yet been
made.
The Scottish Government is clear that Scotland needs more housing but is also
mindful of the need to retain greenbelt to ensure we have distinct communities
like Kilbarchan and Lochwinnoch. I encourage all residents to make their voice
heard, be it against or in favour of these potential housing developments, by
e mailing the developers directly. Wallace Land can be e mailed on david.
campbell@glhearn.com, regarding the Kilbarchan proposals, and Leith
Planning can be e mailed on Sam@leithplanning.co.uk. Please make your voice
heard about these proposals, both Community Councils are also aware of these
developments.
RBS Mobile Bank Services: I am delighted to report that the Royal Bank of
Scotland have confirmed to me that as from October there will be a new North
Ayrshire RBS Mobile Van which will cover Lochwinnoch. Following an RBS
pledge to investigate this to Lochwinnoch Elderly Forum, early this year, I am
now glad that months of lobbying have ensured RBS has listened to the needs
of Lochwinnoch.
“Rural” is marching into the 21st Century with a new Logo, Name, and bright
new website. The Scottish Women’s Institute now has new branches in our
towns and cities with lots of younger, enthusiastic women joining.
The Lochwinnoch Branch would be delighted to welcome new members. So,
if you have ever wanted to get involved in the village community and you have
a skill to share or would like to learn a new skill and would like to meet likeminded
women for a chat and a cuppa , come and join us.
The 2015/16 season starts on Wednesday 16th September with speaker
Catherine Mills telling us about “History in Rhyme”. We have arranged a full,
of information about our activities or phone the Centre 01505 706070.
board opposite the Centre does have information about most activities in
the Village. We open from 10am until 12noon and from 2pm until 4pm from
Monday to Friday. We also have a Wednesday evening yoga class which means
that the photocopying and office are available.
The ever popular Sally Buxton is coming to hold a Psychic Night on Thursday,
17th September. This will be a very well attended night. Early booking is advised
Road Repairs: I am pleased to report that repairs to parts
of Burntshields Road Kilbarchan have recently taken place.
Following approaches from a number of local people who
use the road regularly, I had asked council officers to look at
what could be done, as I am keen that the outlying areas of
the village receive attention as well as the main routes.
Bus Services: Not so good news, were more complaints made
to me from disgruntled bus users regarding the bus service
on the Glasgow Kilbarchan route, to and from Johnstone
and beyond on Paisley fair Monday. The hourly service on
public holidays is clearly inadequate in this day and age,
and I am determined to press for a better service through
representations to McGill’s I firmly believe that the best way of improving bus
services in general is through bus re regulation and I will continue to support
the lobbying of the Scottish Government to bring this about
RBS Mobile Bank Services: Determination of residents in Lochwinnoch has
paid off with the news that RBS are to provide a mobile banking service to the
village. This will be welcomed particularly by older people and non drivers.
Kilbarchan Smile: This is an enthusiastic group in Kilbarchan which has
ambitious ideas for the village. I attended its latest meeting where plans for a
big tidy up in the village were discussed.
This will take place on Saturday 5 September from 11.45am - 4pm meeting at
the Ewing Street car park. The council will provide the necessary equipment
including litter pickers, gloves and bags I know that this initiative has been met
with a lot of interest. Anyone wishing to get involved will be warmly welcomed.
