A Brave New World at
Strawberry Fields Out-of-
School Care
61 61
This month sees the closure of the nursery side of our business. While we
are very sad that this is happening, it does allow space for the very popular
Out-of-school care club to expand. Over the next month we will be taking
over the use of the nursery building, converting it to accommodate the older
age group and providing
additional pre-school, afterschool
and holiday care
spaces.
School holidays: During
the summer the children
enjoyed a variety of
outdoor activities including
using our bouncy castle;
sharpening their archery
skills; as well as several
water fights to cool down.
On the gloomier days the children were busy cooking, making dens and
completing a number of “challenges”, including trying to build the fastest
Lego car. We also managed to find time to visit local parks, soft play, the
beach and the dinosaur exhibition at Kelvingrove museum.
Children’s nursery in Houston will close at the end of August.
The Out of School Care Club will remain open, in fact it will expand into
the vacant nursery building, with a big increase in the number of places
Strawberry Field Nursery was started nearly 20 years ago, in converted out
buildings at Back O Hill farm which provided superb outdoor facilities for
young children in its 2 1/2 acres of woodland and play areas.
Mr and Mrs Cook have enjoyed working with parents and children at the
nursery, but stated that childcare requirements have changed drastically in
recent years with a huge amount of extra bureaucracy and mountains of
paperwork.
Hamish and Yvonne are looking forward to their retirement, with only a little
involvement in the newly expanded Out of School Care.
Wendy would like to sincerely thank all the staff who have worked extremely
hard over the years. Their dedication and loyalty to the nursery has been
hugely appreciated. Over the years we have made very strong bonds with
present and past children which will always be special to us. We would like
to thank the parents for all their support at this sad time as well as for the
kind cards and gifts.
