Cool rain teemed down sending folk scurrying for cover which,
happily, was to be found at McKenzie and Willis. In the car park a
magnifi cent marquee had sprouted under which Oarsome O’Fare
was getting into full swing. Sushi, sandwiches and other treats
were passed around, the abundantly laden platters eagerly fallen
upon and divested of the goodies. Throughout the store, guests
thronged, chatting or listening to the various school musicians
displaying their prowess. The hubbub within the tent was excited
as auction items were perused and bids proffered. The fortunes of
Canterbury schools’ future rowing luminaries are secure, thanks
to the generosity of those who attended.

OPERA AT PEGASUS BAY
An ocean of brollies sprouted on the grassy knoll, shielding faces
from the sun as sweet strains of Mozart lifted on the breeze, fi lling
the glade. Centre stage at Pegasus Bay Winery was the Christchurch
Symphony Orchestra presenting an afternoon of opera and musical
delight. Well loved and timeless arias rang about the green, leafy
amphitheatre, rivalled only by the crickets and birds. Prior to the
concert and during the interval, guests mingled, partaking of the
fi nest fare. The day of artistry and excellence culminated in a lively
can-can, complete with audience participation!
