GOVERNMENT MAYOR RON reports OUR 9-1-1 CENTER AND CALLS ANSWERED In February, you may have heard, or even watched a news story on Channel 9 titled, “Woman’s Unanswered 9-1-1 Call Highlights a Metro-Wide Problem.” I want to clarify this month how your Police Department’s 9-1-1 Center measures up to this story and emphasize Greenwood Village is not part of this alleged “metro-wide problem.” Industry standards require 9-1-1 calls to be answered within 10 seconds (or within 3 rings) once it begins ringing at the 9-1-1 Center. The clock starts ticking the moment the phone actually starts ringing in the 9-1-1 Center. This often causes the caller to believe the 9-1-1 Center is delayed in answering the call — it’s a technological reality. In 2016, our 9-1-1 Center received a total of 14,348 9-1-1 calls. Of those, 2,396 were hang-ups. The dispatchers have to call each caller back to determine whether or not there is an emergency. Please know that 96.30% of our 9-1-1 calls are answered within the national standard of 10 seconds. Simply put, that is unprecedented! While we are all aware of our Police Officers’ fine work, in most cases it only happens when they hear from dispatch. Usually, the critical element to connect our citizens with help is dispatch. Our dispatch personnel are lightning fast in answering the phones, emergency or otherwise, and I appreciate their hard work in keeping service levels so high for the citizens of Greenwood Village. The 9-1-1 center is the key link in the chain of events. I salute our dispatchers for their continuing great efforts!! You are in good hands in Greenwood Village if you ever need to call 9-1-1! COPS, SANDWICHES AND SOCKS AT PALAZZO VERDI IN GV On February 11, just in time for Valentine’s Day, I joined District 1 Councilmember Freda Miklin and the Sock It To Em Sock Campaign along with members of the Greenwood Village Police Department — Chief Jackson, Sergeants Gipson and Oliver, and Officers Valenzuela and Floerchinger, and other law enforcement agencies to spread a little peanut butter and jelly for the homeless. Over 150 attendees made 4,000+ PB & J sandwiches, 4,008 pairs of socks collected, and 26 boxes of Girl Scout Cookies were purchased to aid people in the Denver metro area who are experiencing homelessness. The event was truly a heartfelt experience knowing that our efforts helped feed a family or a child living on the streets or in shelters, and provided them with clean socks especially during the winter season in bitter cold temperatures. Currently there are about 6,000 individuals who experience homelessness in the Denver Metro Area, 64% are families with children, 42% are women and 21% are under the age of 18. The Sock It To Em Sock Campaign provides thousands of pairs of socks to over 70 shelters services and agencies in the Denver Metro Area. For more information, please visit sockittoemsockcampaign.org. RTD OPENS R LINE The Regional Transportation District (RTD) kicked off the opening of the R Line to the public on February 25. RTD’s newest light rail line, the R Line, brings light rail service through the heart of Aurora. The 10.5 miles of new light rail extends existing track at Nine Mile Station up I-225 to the Peoria Station. The new R Line provides easy connections to the University of Colorado A Line and the H Line, making it easier than ever to get to the airport, the Denver Tech Center or downtown Denver.
