364 ANATOMY OF A MONSTROSITY
676 Ross Beuttner and Charles V. Bagli, “How Donald Trump
Bankrupted His Atlantic City Casinos, but Still Earned Millions,”
The New York Times (June 11, 2016).
York Times (Oct. 11, 2016).
678 Still, keep in mind: Trump isn’t a unique monster. He’s the
monster within. To the extent that we focus on Trump, we
should keep in mind that he is a convenient symbol of what
is wrong with humanity, not the main thing wrong with
humanity. The real task is for humanity itself to become more
decent and sensitive, to eliminate every last trace of its own
Trumpishness.
679 “Did Trump really mock reporter’s disability? Videos could
back him up,” Fox News (Sept. 14, 2016). Conservatives have
insisted that Trump did not attempt to mock the reporter’s
disability, but that he was performing a series of gestures that
he has used to make fun of other, non-disabled people. The
point here, however, is that this issue is less relevant than the
lives of the disabled worldwide.
