ADVICE ON FUNDING THE DELIVERY OF
CHESTER NORTHGATE, A £300
MILLION RETAIL AND LEISURE SCHEME.
Strutt & Parker, one of the UK’s leading commercial
property consultants and specialist retail development
advisor, has been appointed to provide strategic advice on
funding the delivery of Chester Northgate.
Chester Northgate will transform the city centre through
the development of a new 500,000 sq ft shopping, leisure
and residential quarter.
The retail-led, open streetscape, mixed use scheme is
being developed by Cheshire West and Chester Council,
assisted by development manager Rivington Land.
The £300 million scheme, which will return Chester to its
position as one of the UK’s leading top 50 retail
destinations, will be anchored by House of Fraser, the
premium department store brand, who has agreed to take
a 100,000 sq ft store.
Cheshire West and Chester Council has also secured
Picturehouse for a six-screen cinema, with Crowne Plaza
relocating to a new 167-bed four-star hotel, incorporating
a 600 capacity conference facility, spa and roof terrace
restaurant.
Chester Northgate, sitting adjacent to the new Storyhouse
theatre and cultural centre, will revitalise the city centre’s
retail offer and shopping experience, also providing
around 70 retail stores, cafes and restaurants, together
with a new market hall, over 800 shoppers’ car parking
spaces and more than 70 residential apartments.
Construction of the first phase of the scheme, for which
planning permission was granted in September 2016, will
commence in 2018, with completion of Chester Northgate
scheduled for late 2021.
Cheshire West and Chester Council will be looking to bring
on board private sector investment for the project at an
appropriate time.
