Ice Box and Klippies set for top place at Sunset Bowls
THE excitement is palpable and
expectations are high ahead of the final
round of the Pick ‘n Pay-sponsored
Sunset Bowls set for last night.
It will be a straight shoot-out for the final
positions with The Ice Box skipped by
PJ Mauer, in first place and Klippies
skipped by Bronwyn Penny fighting it
out for top spot.
Both teams are on 14 points going into
the final round with The Ice Box sitting
on a shot profit of plus 39 and Klippies
on plus 36.
Rhona Westmann of the Klippies team
said her side was wary of the Ice Box
side.
“The side and especially Rodney Vermaak
are bowling well so we have to
be at our very best,’’ she said.
Klippies have done well to fight their
way to the top after sitting in the top five
for most of the series while the Old
Dalian Union, who for a while were
sitting at the top, have now dropped to
fourth place, one position behind thirdplaced
the Fatcats. Both these sides are
on 12 points.
The TNT Junior team of Josh Turner,
Andrew Lentz and Ethan Grunewald,
playing in the event for the first time are
also on 12 points and in fifth place
Don't Say This To A Cop
1. I can't reach my license unless you hold
my beer.

11. Well, when I reached down to pick up my
bag of money from the bank robbery, my gun
fell off my lap and got lodged between the
brake pedal and the gas pedal, forcing me to
speed out of control.

Catch The Rabbit
The Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD),
The FBI, and the CIA are all trying to prove
that they are the best at apprehending
criminals. The President decides to give
them a test. He releases a rabbit into a forest
and each of them has to catch it.
The CIA goes in. They place animal
informants throughout the forest. They
question all plant and mineral witnesses.
After three months of extensive
investigations they conclude that rabbits do
not exist.
The FBI goes in. After two weeks with no
leads they burn the forest, killing everything
in it, including the rabbit, and they make no
apologies. The rabbit had it coming.
The LAPD goes in. They come out two hours
later with a badly beaten bear. The bear is
yelling: "Okay! Okay! I'm a rabbit! I'm a rabbit!"
followed by the Central side also on 12
points.
Last week early rain threatened to
disrupt but by the time players took to
the greens it had pretty much cleared –
again a gift from the Gods.
Unlike the preliminary rounds where two
games were played each Thursday over
seven ends, the final round will be just
one game with 14 ends played.
The highlight of last nights event was
the prizegiving which is held after the
final round. It is always well attended
with each team member receiving a
prize.
It will also be a sad farewell to Sandy
and Tony Elliott who for years have
convened the event with Sandy organising
the teams and Tony seeing to the
scoring.
