KINGSRIDGE High School’s
u13A Hockey 5s team did
themselves proud this term
by walking away unbeaten at
the first ever Hockey 5s tournament
which was hosted by
Clarendon Primary School in
East London.
'This was the first tournament
of its kind for primary schools
in the Eastern Cape and all
teams were a little tentative
at the start,' said KHS u13A
hockey coach, Wayne Grâtz.
'However, the KHS u13s led
by their captain, Catelyn Farrer,
did well right from the
get-go.'
They beat Hudson Park 3-1;
Stirling 8-1; George Randell
9-1; and Clarendon 4-2. Catelyn
Farrer, Nelisiwe Mthembu
and Dominique Alexander
were nominated as the
team’s Most Valuable Players
(MVP) in their respective
matches.
The format of the matches is
four players at a time and a
goalkeeper – 'our keeper,
Amkele Ndyoko, made numerous
saves – and then
rolling substitution,' said
Grâtz.
'The players had great fun
and learned invaluable lessons.
This was a good start
to the upcoming hockey season
and we look forward to
strong competition this year.'
'The Hockey 5s tournament
will continue in the 4th term.
We thank Clarendon Primary
for hosting such a tournament
for our players,' concluded
Grâtz.
