10 A QUARTERLY NEWS PUBLICATION FROM SRI VISHNU EDUCATIONAL SOCIETY A RECAPITULATION The Baja SAE Competition originated at the University of South Carolina in 1976, under the supervision of Dr. J. F. Stevens. Baja SAE is an intercollegiate engineering design competition for undergraduate and graduate engineering students. The objective of the competition is to simulate real-world engineering design projects and their related challenges. Each team is competing to have its design accepted for manufacture by a fictitious firm. The students must function as a team to design, build, test, promote and compete with a vehicle within the limits of the rules, also to generate financial support for their project and manage their educational priorities. Each team's goal is to design and build a prototype of a rugged, single seat, off-road recreational vehicle intended for sale to the non-professional weekend off-road enthusiast. The vehicle must be safe, easily transported, easily maintained and fun to drive. It should be able to negotiate rough terrain without damage. As of 2010, the SAE Baja Series consisted of three competitions, though in the past there had been as many as seven sanctioned events. A Baja SAE competition event happens for three to four days. ZIBA RACERS AN EMERGING YOUNG TEAM: Team ZIBA Racers started its journey in 2015 with a team of 14 enthusiastic girls exhibiting good teamwork and perseverance which helped the team clear the virtual round in the very first attempt. This was the only women's team from SOUTH INDIA. It is always a herculean task for any team to clear the virtual round in its first attempt. ZIBA Racers achieved it by their unswerving determination to win. The team achieved this feat by competing with 395 teams and moved to dynamic round. In the dynamic round, the team successfully finished the technical inspection, acceleration test, brake test and finally stood in an endurance test. Though it was a new entrant, it gave tough completion to the other teams. The result was that the team was successful in getting a decent score. This story is all about the ZIBA Racers last year's scintillating performance in their debut. ZIBA RACERS – THIS YEAR Inspired by last year's great attempt, the team is going ahead with great energies in order to outsmart other teams. In its attempt this year, the team has participated in the virtual round which has been held at Chirst University, Bengaluru. 415 teams from all over India have attended it. The teams are from teams NITs, IITs and BITS colleges. Out of 415 teams, there are 3 women teams and ZIBA Racers is ranked 2nd among all women teams in India. The team has got 70th rank in its virtual round. ZIBA Racers have bagged 1st place in Andhra Pradesh and has got 3rd rank in both Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. This is the second time that Team ZIBA Racers is participating in SAE BAJA 2017. From the last year's experience, they have learned many new techniques and this time they have come up with new design learning lessons from its mistakes. This year TEAM Ziba Racers has 18 girls who are going to participate in SAE Baja representing the whole South India. Now the vehicle is under manufacturing process and the team is working restlessly day and night to build its car with a new avatar of perfection. From the starting of sketch of design, to the end of body framework everything is being handled by these 18 girls. More than half of the vehicle has been finished and will be ready for the competition by January 2017. The approaching February will be the memorable month for the team since it is participating in BAJA SAE 2017 for 6 continuous days at Phitampur Indore.
ISSUE 14 JANUARY 2017 11 THE IBM-TGMC 2015 AWARD CEREMONY The awards ceremony of IBM-TGMC 2015 was grandly organized on 15th of December 2016 at auditorium in B.V. Raju Institute of Technology (BVRIT) Narsapur campus. IBM announced the winning teams in the Developer Connect Conference in Bengaluru for TGMC 2015 and the awards ceremony was held at BVRIT with the Chief Guest Mr. Willie Tedaja , IBM World-Wide Director for developer & start up ecosystem. He presided over the function, gave the prizes and had the interaction with the students about the future prospects of IBM software. At this function, IBM also honoured the "Top-20 Teams" and the "All Girls Team" of the contest, besides the Winner and Runner-up of the contest. Miss. Durga Bhavana of 4 IT, BVRITN won the Best Project Award. Miss.
