EVENTS RECAP. ОГЛЯД ПОДІЙ Bitter Harvest Film Pre Screening in Winnipeg Text: Dayna Konopelny Photos: Norbert K. Iwan n March 1, 2017, the Manitoba Ukrainian Students’ Society, University of Winnipeg Ukrainian Students’ Association, and the Ukrain- O ian Canadian Students’ Union (SUSK), came together to host a prescreening of the Hollywood film Bitter Harvest. It was at the University of Manitoba, and about 200 people attended. The purpose of the pre-screening was to engage students of all ethnic backgrounds in a discussion about the Holodomor. One student reflected that the movie was “well-rounded and covered different themes. It reflected the weight of the Holodomor while incorporating the themes of honour and truth”. After the screening, there was an opportunity for the audience to talk and reflect on the movie. Although many students agreed parts of the movie were difficult to watch, they believed that the resistance of the Ukrainian people shown in the movie gave them hope. The pre-screening was great opportunity for students to engage in a deeper conversation about crimes against humanity. УВ 10 Український Вінніпеґ - КВІТЕНЬ 2017 -
