Children Celebrate
125 Years of Ukrainian Settlement in Canada

he students at Immaculate Heart of Mary School have
T been engaged in learning, and celebrating, 125 years of
Ukrainian settlement in Canada. There were many activities
the students, staff, and families participated in during the
month of March
The highlight of the month was a spectacular concert performed
by the students entitled Adventures in Baba’s Trunk. Their
beautiful singing, lively dancing, and colourful costumes told
the story of a Ukrainian Canadian family, with three curious
young children, who want to know more about their family’s
roots. The children’s Tato brings out a travel trunk that belonged
to their Baba and Dido. The trunk is filled with many interesting
items from a life once lived by Ukrainian pioneers. As each
item is revealed, so too are all the ‘adventures in baba’s trunk’!
Not only was the production very entertaining and amusing, but
also very educational as well.
