Ancestrale: very deep, elegant and fruity nose. On the palate<br />

a serious old cognac with the touch of woodiness typical<br />

of the old. Glad to see that Pierre Ferrand kept back some<br />

decent old stock!<br />

Planat<br />

Subsidiary of Camus [qv].<br />

XO: nicely floral and fruity.<br />

Extra Vieille XO: classic thirty year old with good rancio,<br />

long.<br />

FB 1967: heavy floral nose, baked apple feel on palate.<br />

Prince Hubert de Polignac<br />

In 1947 the Polignac family licensed the Unicoop cooperative<br />

[qv] to use the name of Prince Hubert de Polignac.<br />

VS: nice round nose, fruity, albeit a bit sugary. Ideal for<br />

mixing with ice etc.<br />

VSOP: run of the mill, not concentrated enough for mixing.<br />

Dynasty: good rancio, complex aromas, round, long.<br />

Réserve Spéciale: 43%, buttery, rich. Made from all eight<br />

permitted varieties. Light, pure floral nose. Rich and a little<br />

nutty – but still floral – on the palate.<br />

XO Alliance 25: a little Folle Blanche but lacks complexity<br />

compared with the family’s other cognacs.<br />
