Over the last twenty years Cognac P. Frapin has
considerably developed its brand name. Under the
chairmanship of Max and Geneviève Cointreau since
1978, the House is now run by their son, Jean-Pierre
Cointreau. The energy put into the company has enabled
it to develop a range of Cognacs exclusively produced on
the family estate.
The Grande Champagne area supplies the finest
Cognac eaux-de-vie. The 240 hectares of Frapin vines
are exclusively located in the very heart of this Grande
Champagne area, enjoying the very best geographic
location. Since 2013 Frapin has been able to harvest
from its own vineyard enough to distill over 1900 hl
of pure alcohol, using integrated agricultural practices.
The eaux-de-vie age differently in the various cellars
located on the 350 hectares of the domain, either at
ground level, with a damp atmosphere, or above in
the dry attics. Using a system of rotation in the cellars
the cellar master blends the cognacs to develop their
different characteristics.
Although it may seem a shame that the equivalent
of over 100,000 bottles evaporates each year in his
cellars the cellar-master knows that the ‘Part des Anges’
(the angels’ share) is one of his most faithful allies in
the production of the finest Grande Champagne
Cognacs. In addition to the carefully preserved Vintage
Cognacs the Frapin casks age the equivalent of more
than 5 million bottles of Cognac in dark cellars under
blackened tiles.
The continuous growth in more than 75 markets
throughout the world remains significant in Asia, in
Western and Eastern Europe, but also in the Americas
and in several African countries too. The brand is also
available on the duty free markets, representing 10 per
cent of overall sales.
Cognac Frapin sells the equivalent of half a million
bottles a year, 85 per cent of which are high-quality
Cognacs.
The presentation of the range is key: a rounded
decanter for VSOP, Signature P. Frapin, VIP XO,
representing the roundness and the elegance of the
blends; the bottle of the Château is used for the Cuvées
of the Château Fontpinot (XO and vintages), witness to
the exceptional ageing of the inventory which enhances
the single estate specificities of an eau-de-vie produced
entirely from the Frapin vineyard; the exceptional Cuvées
such as the Extra, the Cuvée P. Frapin 1888 and the newly
launched Cuvée Plume, are all presented in very exclusive
and distinctive up-scale decanters.
VS 5-6: light colour, delicious florality on the nose.
