• Tribune Report
Holder Dhaka Abahani Limted and
Gazi Group Cricketers continued
their winning run, registering their
third consecutive victory, against
Brothers Union and Legends of
Rupganj respectively in the Dhaka
Premier Division Cricket League
2016-17 season yesterday.
Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club,
Abahani v Brothers, Fatullah
Abahani were off to a flying start
after electing to bat first with opening
batsmen Liton Kumar Das (48)
and Indian cricketer Uday Kaul
(94) adding 96 runs for the opening
wicket stand, thus laying the foundation
for a big total.
Youngster Nazmul Hossain
Shanto (49) and skipper Mahmudullah
(49*) continued the tempo of
the innings while all-rounder Shuvagata
Hom smashed a blistering
17-ball 44, featuring seven fours
and a six at the end as the Sky Blues
posted a huge total of 327/6.
In reply, despite opener Junaid
Siddique’s 112-ball 114, composed
with eight fours and three sixes,
Brothers fell short, ending their
chase on 295/8. Top-order batsman
Mizanur Rahman added 42 while
lower-order batter Nihaduzzaman
effort, after scoring a quick
knock earlier. He picked up 3/45
from his quota of 10 overs while
all-rounder Mohammad Saifuddin
took two wickets.
Gazi v Rupganj, BKSP 3
Captain Mushfiqur Rahim encountered
a rough a day as Rupganj
faced their first defeat in the league
after a batting disaster saw them
bundled out for 156 in 44 overs.
Mushfiq had won the toss and decided
to take first guard in the 47-
over per side affair.
Mushfiq, who scored 26, was
only the fourth batsman to reach
double digits as none of the batters
were able to put up a significant
score. In what was a sorry batting
display, No 9 batsman Mosharraf
Hossain’s 37 was the highest score.
Sk Jamal v Doleshwar, BKSP 4
It turned into a 38-over per side game
after heavy overnight rain forced the
game to be delayed. Sheikh Jamal
posted 235/7 after electing to bat
first. Imrul Kayes was the top-scorer
with 67 off 74 balls with seven
Starc, Lynn in Champs
Trophy squad
• Reuters
Australia pace spearhead Mitchell
Starc and batsman Chris Lynn have
been named as part of a formidable
squad for next month's Champions
Trophy in England and Wales despite
nursing injuries.
Starc was forced to pull out midway
through the India tour last
month with a fractured foot while
Lynn has been sidelined with a
shoulder injury during the Indian
Premier League.
Both are expected to be fit for
Australia's opener on June 2 against
New Zealand. James Faulkner,
man-of-the-match in the 2015
World Cup final against New Zealand,
has been omitted from the 15-
man squad named yesterday, with
selectors opting for all-rounders
Moises Henriques, Glenn Maxwell
and Marcus Stoinis.
