Why not take time out to enjoy Musical Myths
1 on August 16, at 11am, at The Drill Hall in
Free School Lane, Lincoln. This session will
feature Little Red Riding Hood (text by Roald
Dahl) and Stravinsky’s The Firebird.
Musical Myths II, takes place on August 18 at
11am – also at The Drill Hall, when families can
enjoy The Three Little Pigs (Roald Dahl) plus
Prokofiev’s Peter and the Wolf, performed by a
full, seven-artist Chamber ensemble.
There’s lots more to enjoy in Lincoln,
including Wave at Lincoln Castle, which
features a fabulous display of ceramic poppies
(in place until September 4), a Dragon Boat
Race on July 30 on the Brayford Waterfront
and the ever-popular VW Camper Day – also
taking place on the Brayford Waterfront, on
August 7.
From July 30 to September 11, it will be well
worth making a trip to Doddington, just outside
of Lincoln for the Biennial Sculpture Exhibition
at Doddington Hall, which will include more
than 450 pieces.
This year there is also a special interactive
commissioned sculpture (which has been
funded by the Lincoln Cultural and Arts
Partnership), which is bound to prove
irresistible to children.
Willow sculptor Carole Beavis will be creating a
huge dragon next to the Gatehouse at the Hall,
and youngsters will be encouraged to be brave
and get to know it better by walking under its
wings and into its hollow belly.
This “fiery” creature is expected to be about 10
feet tall and it will be built during the month prior
to the opening of the exhibition, so there will be a
chance for visitors to see Carole at work and even
add some willow hazel or birch twigs to the beast
themselves, under her guidance.
