Adventures for
mini explorers...
The Petwood Hotel has long been a
favourite venue for family get-togethers and
the gardens certainly contribute to this.
“I love it when guests tell us of their childhood
memories of the Petwood”, says Managing Director
Emma Brealey.
“In some cases, guests vividly recall memories
from decades ago exploring the rhododendron
tunnels after a family Sunday lunch with parents and
grandparents. More recent stories include going on
a Gruffalo hunt around the woods, or discovering
‘an enchanted forest’. It reminds us that a garden
designed over 100 years ago for a wealthy
Baroness has inspired many young, creative minds
and provided enjoyment for thousands of people
over the years”, Emma continued.
It is hoped that this enjoyment will continue with
the exciting restoration of the gardens this year,
where the vision is to return the grounds to their
Edwardian splendour as designed by the famous
landscape architect Harold Peto. The first phase of
the project completed in April and has been very well
received by guests and visitors. The next phase will
Emma concluded, “Whether providing a
beautiful setting for a relaxing drink on the
terrace or the perfect backdrop for family
photographs, we want the gardens to be
enjoyed by everyone.”
