Teenagers and Skin<br />
As a teenager, hormones can contribute to you having pimples or blackheads. How<br />
can you help to prevent this from happening?<br />

Wash regularly with warm water and unperfumed soap.<br />

Always use your own clean face cloth, as bacteria like to hide in the fibres of the<br />
face cloth. Do you want to wash with someone else’s bacteria?<br />

Avoid greasy food.<br />

Eat lots of fruit and vegetables and drink lots of water.<br />

Don’t squeeze your spots – it will spread the infection.<br />

Use special lotions or creams if you feel it is necessary. Can you name any?<br />

Dandruff can contribute towards spots and blackheads, so treat hair with special<br />
anti-dandruff shampoo.<br />
Your Skin<br />
Under your skin there are tiny oil and<br />
sweat glands. Oil and sweat appear on the<br />
surface of your skin through holes called<br />
pores. This can mix with dirt on your skin<br />
and block your pores, leading to pimples,<br />
blackheads and other skin infections.<br />
Your Teeth<br />
By the age of twelve most people have<br />
twenty-eight permanent teeth. There are<br />
still four more to come – wisdom teeth.<br />
Sometimes, when our wisdom teeth<br />
appear it can cause discomfort and we<br />
may need to visit the dentist.<br />
