Turks & Caicos recently received the
Traveler’s Choice “Best Beach” and
“#1 Island” awards from TripAdvisor,
while Grace Bay Beach was ranked
the “#1 Beach in the World” in 2016.
The Caribbean Tourism
Organization (CTO) has declared
2017 the “Year of Adventure” in the
Caribbean, celebrating everything
from adrenaline-pumping active
pursuits to local culture and culinary
experiences. Visitors and residents to
the Turks & Caicos will have plenty
of options, as initiatives will be developed
around: “Once-in-a-lifetime”
getaways; “There’s a first time for
everything” vacations; Family and
“friends-cation” discovery journeys;
Wellness adventures and Dinearound
delicacy vacations focusing
on unique food offerings. The goal is
for on-island tour companies to take
travelers beyond their resort and into
the heart of the destination where
guests can immerse themselves in
parasailing, snorkeling, and kayaking;
zip line adventures; fishing charters;
whale watching; horseback riding
along the beach; helicopter tours;
sailing expeditions; island exploring;
culinary and beer factory tours; celebrating
Caribbean festivals, perhaps
in full costume; and much more.
At the same time, the Caribbean
Hotel and Tourism Association
(CHTA) is supporting the United
Nations General Assembly’s declaration
of 2017 as the “International
Year of Sustainable Tourism for
Development.” The declaration calls
for change in policies, business practices
and consumer behavior towards
a more sustainable tourism sector. In
real terms, products “Proudly Made
in the Caribbean” deserve special
attention and preference. In Turks &
Caicos, look for vendors introducing
visitors to local delicacies, arts and
crafts and unique cultural experiences.
