Entry requirements
You’ll need good communication
skills, plenty of enthusiasm and the
ability to work with other people.
What will I learn?
This course is ideal if you’re not
sure if hairdressing or beauty
therapy is for you as you’ll get a
taste of both then the opportunity
to choose the path you prefer.
You’ll gain the basic skills you need
to get started as well as developing
communication skills and your
creativity. Training in our industrystandard
Baltic Salon and Spa,
you’ll also take up a placement
one day a week in a professional
salon. You can progress to our level
2 programmes.

You’ll need good communication
skills and will need to attend an
interview.
What will I learn?
Studying both hairdressing and
beauty therapy, you’ll work in
our professional salon, Baltic
Salon and Spa on paying clients.
With a focus on hairdressing
techniques, you’ll develop skills
in colour enhancement, plaiting
and twisting, cutting techniques,
creative styling and the art of
dressing.
You’ll undertake a work experience
placement one day a week to
help develop your communication
and creativity skills and have
the chance to enter national
competitions. On completion you
can progress to our Level 2
in Hairdressing.

A Level 1 qualification in
hairdressing.
What will I learn?
Working on paying clients in our
commercial salon, Baltic Salon
and Spa, you’ll develop your
hairdressing skills and creativity.
There will be opportunities to
work with industry specialists,
guest stylists and take part in
competition work. There is a
strong emphasis on teamwork
throughout the course, which is an
essential part of the hairdressing
culture. You’ll also get the chance
to take up work experience with
local salons one day a week.

Minimum of four GCSEs grade
D-F/3-1
What will I learn?
Throughout the course you
will develop your practical and
knowledge-based understanding
of subjects including skin care, hand
care, basic make-up application,
nail art application and manicure
and pedicure treatments, as well
as themed face-painting. You’ll also
develop your awareness of how to
present a professional image in a
salon.
Studying at our industry-standard
Baltic Salon and Spa, you will be
continually assessed through
your study programme against
awarding body standards.

Level 1 Beauty Therapy.
What will I learn?
Throughout the course you will
develop your practical skills by
performing professional treatments
in our commercial salon, Baltic
Salon and Spa. You’ll learn a range
of professional beauty techniques
including facial skin therapy,
Dermalogica skin care, a variety
of make-up techniques, eye
treatments, hot waxing techniques
and manicure and pedicure. You’ll
also develop your customer service
skills which include promoting
products and services, health and
safety, reception management,
communication and working as
part of a team.
On completing the course you
could progress on to the Level 3 in
Beauty Therapy.

Level 2 Beauty Therapy.
What will I learn?
Throughout the course you will
work with experienced therapists
in our Baltic Salon and Spa who
will support your development and
give you an insight into the industry.
You will follow a programme of
innovative, challenging and exciting
beauty units that will include facial
techniques, body electro therapy,
body massage and epilation. You
will be trained by Demalogica to
use their skin care products and
get the opportunity to get hands
on experience at professional
salons and take part in enrichment
courses to gain additional skills
in areas such as spray tanning,
hot stone therapy and Caflon ear
piercing.
