What will I learn?<br />

The course is aimed at those who<br />

wish to start a career in the sport<br />

<strong>and</strong> active leisure industry. You’ll<br />

study all aspects of how <strong>and</strong> where<br />

to participate in sport, looking at<br />

improving fitness, healthy lifestyle,<br />

sport in the workplace <strong>and</strong> working<br />

safely. We'll help to improve your<br />

work readiness by developing the<br />

skills that show your potential to an<br />

employer by using your knowledge<br />

to best effect. By having the right<br />

attitude, skills <strong>and</strong> high st<strong>and</strong>ards<br />

you'll be a great asset to their<br />

What will I learn?<br />

On this course you will develop skills<br />

in preparing for activity sessions,<br />

how to lead activities <strong>and</strong> work as<br />

a team, health <strong>and</strong> safety, how to<br />

review <strong>and</strong> improve sessions <strong>and</strong><br />

how to check equipment. You will<br />

also take part in work experience<br />

where you'll develop your skills in the<br />

workplace.<br />

Health, Exercise &<br />

Fitness Instruction<br />

Level 2<br />

1 year<br />

Entry requirements<br />

Three GCSEs at grade C/4 or<br />

above, preferably including English.<br />

What will I learn?<br />

This course will prepare you for<br />

work in the health <strong>and</strong> fitness<br />

industry. You’ll study anatomy <strong>and</strong><br />

physiology, how to maintain health,<br />

safety <strong>and</strong> welfare in a variety<br />

of fitness environments, how to<br />

communicate with <strong>and</strong> motivate<br />

clients, employment law, industry<br />

specific legislation, customer<br />

service, diet <strong>and</strong> lifestyle, how<br />

to plan group exercise sessions<br />

<strong>and</strong> how to instruct a variety of<br />

exercise sessions. On completion<br />

you can progress on to our level 3<br />

programmes.<br />

Sports Leadership<br />

Three GCSEs at grades D/3 or<br />

What will I learn?<br />

This course is ideal for students who<br />

want to follow a more academic<br />

route of study that will allow them to<br />

then complete a Level 3 course <strong>and</strong><br />

eventually progress to university.<br />

You’ll study fitness testing, how to<br />

develop a fitness programme <strong>and</strong><br />

leading sport activities, as well as<br />

looking at a number of sports <strong>and</strong><br />

taking part in work experience. On<br />

completion, you will have the skills<br />

necessary to get a job as a leisure<br />

attendant or a sports leader or to<br />

progress on to one of our level 3<br />

courses.<br />

Entry requirements<br />

GCSEs at grade C/4 or above in<br />

English <strong>and</strong> maths. Your football<br />

ability will be assessed by coaches<br />

from Gateshead Football Club as<br />

part of your application. Preferably,<br />

you'll be <strong>18</strong> when starting this<br />

course.<br />

What will I learn?<br />

We've teamed up with Gateshead<br />

Football Club to offer a fantastic<br />

student–athlete football<br />

development programme, which<br />

combines outst<strong>and</strong>ing education<br />

with football excellence.<br />

This unique opportunity allows<br />

you to play at the professional<br />

club whilst continuing with your<br />

academic studies. As a playing<br />

scholar, you will train full time with<br />

Gateshead FC staff <strong>and</strong> represent<br />

the club in the U19 Northern<br />

Alliance League (division 1).<br />

The course will provide you with the<br />

knowledge <strong>and</strong> skills to work within<br />

the sports industry <strong>and</strong> you will<br />

have the opportunity to complete<br />

work rotations in employment roles,<br />

giving you invaluable experience of<br />

the infrastructure of the footballing<br />

industry <strong>and</strong> the running of a<br />

successful club.<br />

GCSEs at grade C/4 or above in<br />

English <strong>and</strong> maths. FA Emergency<br />

Aid Certificate. FA Safeguarding<br />

Children Certificate. Preferably,<br />

you'll be <strong>18</strong> when starting this<br />

course.<br />

What will I learn?<br />

This unique opportunity allows<br />

you to coach at the professional<br />

club whilst continuing with your<br />

academic studies. As a coach<br />

scholar you will undertake an<br />

employability <strong>and</strong> FA Level 2<br />

qualification <strong>and</strong> deliver coaching<br />

sessions within the club <strong>and</strong><br />

community settings alongside<br />

Gateshead FC staff.<br />

This is a fantastic programme that<br />

will provide you with a combination<br />

of industry relevant qualifications<br />

<strong>and</strong> the opportunity to coach in a<br />

multitude of environments<br />
