No specific entry requirements<br />
other than a basic fitness level,<br />
enthusiasm <strong>and</strong> self-discipline.<br />
What will I learn?<br />
This is your chance to find out about<br />
employment in the uniformed<br />
services such as the police, fire<br />
brigade, prison or paramedic<br />
services. You’ll enjoy a physical<br />
fitness programme mixed with class<br />
sessions covering theory, research<br />
<strong>and</strong> group activities to help build<br />
team working <strong>and</strong> problem solving<br />
skills. When complete, you can<br />
progress on to the Level 2 Public<br />
Services programme.<br />

Three GCSEs at grade D/3 or a<br />
related qualification at distinction<br />
grade.<br />
What will I learn?<br />
This course is your chance to gain<br />
experience in the armed forces,<br />
police, fire, prison <strong>and</strong> paramedic<br />
services before applying to work<br />
in your chosen service. The course<br />
covers a range of units which are<br />
taught through a mix of classroom<br />
study, group activities <strong>and</strong> field trips.<br />
You’ll build on your interpersonal<br />
<strong>and</strong> communication skills <strong>and</strong><br />
learn how to be an effective team<br />
player. You can progress to a range<br />
of careers in the public services or<br />
continue your studies with us on the<br />
Level 3 Public Uniformed Services<br />
programme.<br />

Five GCSEs at grade C/4 or above,<br />
including English.<br />
What will I learn?<br />
Develop the knowledge,<br />
underst<strong>and</strong>ing <strong>and</strong> skills you<br />
need to work in public services<br />
at officer or operative level. This<br />
course is relevant if you want to<br />
work in the police, armed forces<br />
<strong>and</strong> paramedic services as well as<br />
opening up careers in social work,<br />
probation service <strong>and</strong> youth <strong>and</strong><br />
community work.<br />
You’ll cover leadership <strong>and</strong><br />
teamwork, citizenship, crime <strong>and</strong><br />
custodial care, psychology as well<br />
as fitness testing <strong>and</strong> team sports.<br />
You’ll also enjoy projects with<br />
professionals such as the army<br />
residential, adventure days with<br />
Royal Marines, community policing<br />
<strong>and</strong> development days with the<br />
Royal Navy. Extended Diploma<br />
students often progress directly<br />
to degree courses with leading<br />
universities.<br />
