numerous benefits. Some foods such as honey, black seed, etc hold a
whole host of benefits. These will be discussed in more detail later.
Bodily Movement and Rest
Movement and exercise cause warmth in the body by increasing the
rate of respiration. Rest has the opposite effect. Modern day doctors
emphasise the need of regular exercise and the need of burning off
those calories. The Prophet r, through his noble habits taught this to us
over fourteen centuries ago.
The Prophet r had a habit of walking, often for long distances. Ibn
`Umar t narrated that Ras[lull\h r would go to Qub\ (an area 5km
away from Mad|nah, where he built the first Masjid after the Hijrah)
every Saturday, (sometimes) walking and (sometimes) riding. al-Bukh\r|
`¬’ishah t reports that the Prophet r raced with me and I beat him.
This was before I had put on some weight. Thereafter I raced him again
(after a period of time) and he beat me and said, ‘This (win) avenges
that (defeat).’
Ibn Kath|r
It is worth noting that the Prophet r married `¬’ishah y in the later
part of his life and that when he raced her he would have been at least
fifty years old, maybe even approaching the age of sixty. At this age he
was healthy enough to race and beat someone less than half his age.
Sahl ibn Sa`d t reports that we were with Ras[lull\h r in the trenches
(during the battle of A#z\b) and Ras[lull\h was himself digging.

Again it is worth noting that the Battle of A#z\b occurred during the
fifth year after the Hijrah and so the Prophet r would have been at the
