The Qur’\n<br />

‘O mankind! There has come to you a Direction from<br />

your Lord and a healing for <strong>the</strong> (diseases) in your hearts,<br />

and for those who believe, Guidance and a Mercy.’<br />

‘We send down (stage by stage) in <strong>the</strong> Qur’\n that<br />

which is a healing and a mercy to those who believe:<br />

to <strong>the</strong> unjust it causes nothing but loss after loss.’<br />

Qur’\n, al-Isr\’ 17:82<br />

‘Had We sent this as a Qur’\n (in a language)<br />

o<strong>the</strong>r than Arabic, <strong>the</strong>y would have said:<br />

Why are not its verses explained in detail?<br />

What, (A book) not in Arabic and an Arab (Messenger)?<br />

Say: It is a guide and a healing to those who believe;<br />

and for those who believe not, <strong>the</strong>re is deafness in <strong>the</strong>ir ears,<br />

and it is blindness in <strong>the</strong>ir (eyes):<br />

<strong>the</strong>y are (as it were) being called from a place far distant!’<br />

Qur’\n, Fu]]ilat 41:44<br />

The greatest and most reliable cure ever shown to <strong>the</strong> believers is<br />

without doubt <strong>the</strong> Qur’\n. As shown in <strong>the</strong> verses above, it cures<br />

diseases <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> heart (spiritual diseases) along with physical diseases.<br />

Ab[ Sa’id t narrates that some <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> companions <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>Prophet</strong> r<br />

went on a journey until <strong>the</strong>y came to an Arab tribe (<strong>of</strong> non-Muslims at<br />

night). They asked <strong>the</strong> latter to treat <strong>the</strong>m as guests but were refused.<br />

(During this time) <strong>the</strong> chief <strong>of</strong> that tribe was bitten by a snake (or stung<br />

by a scorpion) and <strong>the</strong> tribe tried <strong>the</strong>ir best to cure him but in vain.<br />

Some <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong>m suggested, ‘Go to those people who have come (i.e. <strong>the</strong><br />

companions) maybe <strong>the</strong>y will possess a cure.’ So <strong>the</strong>y came to <strong>the</strong><br />
