Those who spend (in charity),
whether in prosperity, or in adversity;
(those) who restrain anger, and pardon (all) men;
for All\h loves those who do good.’
Qur’\n, ¬l `Imr\n 3:133-134
Ab[ Hurayrah t narrated that once a companion approached the
Messenger r and asked him for some advice. The Prophet r said, ‘Do
not become angry.’ The man asked (the same) again and again, and the
Prophet r said (each time), ‘Do not become angry.’
al-Bukh\r|
Ab[ Hurayrah t also narrated that the Prophet r said,
‘The strong is not the one who overcomes people with his strength, but
the strong is the one who controls himself while in anger.’ al-Bukh\r|
Joy is a quality which is acceptable and commendable as long as it is in
moderation. It is said that it strengthens the inward energy.
All\h I says in the Qur'\n,
‘Say: "In the Bounty of All\h. And in His Mercy, in that let them
rejoice," that is better than the (wealth) they hoard.’
Qur’\n, Y[nus 10:58
Extreme joy and happiness is not approved as All\h I also says,
‘Exult not, for All\h does not love those who exult.’
Qur’\n, al-Qa]a] 28:76
This does not mean that happiness is forbidden, but the meaning of
this is that happiness should be expressed and indulged in with
moderation. The example of the Prophet r bears testimony to this.
J\bir t narrates that the extent of the Prophet’s laughter was a smile.
