Medicine of the Prophet

All\h I says in the Qur'\n,
‘And we gave you (Ban[ Isr\’il) the shade of clouds
and sent down to you Mann and Quails, saying,
‘Eat of the good things we have provided you.’
Qur’\n, al-Baqarah, 2:57
Ras[lull\h r drew similitude between truffles and Mann because just
like Mann were given to the Ban[ Isr\’|l without any effort on their
part, truffles also grow without having to be grown like other plants.
Some scholars have mentioned that mushrooms in general do qualify
as having similar benefits, but care should be taken to ensure that only
non-harmful (non-poisonous) ones are consumed.
Sa`[{ and Qus{
Sa`[{ is any medication which is taken up from the nose. Ras[lull\h r
himself took medication in this manner.
Ibn `Abb\s t narrated that the Prophet r was cupped and he paid the
person who cupped him for his services and also took Sa`[{. al-Bukh\r|
In the time of the Prophet r, one medication used as Sa`[{ was the
Qus{ (Costus - commonly Saussurea costus), an incense stick which
was known as the Indian Qus{ (Indian Agarwood) and the sea Qus{.
Qus{ may be more commonly known as `$d, which is used as a
fragrance. There are many who do, however, say that Qus{ is not
exclusively `$d, as its scientific name implies there are a few plants
that fall within the same category and share similar benefits.
Umm Qays y narrated that she heard the Prophet r say,
‘Treat with the Indian incense, for it has healing for seven diseases; it is
