Medicine of the Prophet

Milk
‘And verily in the cattle there is a lesson for you. We give you to
drink of that which is in their bellies, from between excretions
and blood, pure milk; palatable to the drinkers.’
Qur’\n, an-Na#l, 16:66
Milk is rich in nutrients such as calcium and was of the preferred drinks
of Ras[lull\h r. On the night of Mi`r\j he was given the option of
either drinking milk or wine and he chose milk. Upon this Jibr|l u
said, ‘You have been guided to fi{rah (nature); if you had chosen wine
your Ummah would have been misguided.’

Anas t narrated that some people were sick and said, ‘O Ras[lull\h,
Give us shelter and food.’ So when they became healthy they said, ‘the
climate of Mad|nah is not suitable for us.’ So Ras[lull\h sent them to
*arr\ with some camels of his and said, ‘Drink of their milk.’ al-Bukh\r|
Ibn `Abb\s t narrated that the Prophet r said,
‘Whenever one of you eats some food he should say, ‘O All\h grant us
blessings in this food and feed us something which is better.’ But when
one of you drinks milk he should say, ‘O All\h grant us blessing in this
milk and provide more milk for us’ for indeed there is nothing which
can take the place of both food and drink except milk.’ Ab[ D\w[d
Barley and Talb|nah
Barley was very much liked by the Prophet r and he consumed it in
various forms such as bread, dough and gruel.
