Cowboy Christmas
Steer
Clear
Kyle Irwin’s
run blitzed him
back onto
rodeo’s radar
BY NICK CICERE
Steer wrestler Kyle Irwin
didn’t simply celebrate
Cowboy Christmas.
During the fabled stretch
of lucrative rodeos, Irwin may
as well have been Santa Claus
himself.
Following wins at the
Cody (Wyo.) Stampede and
St. Paul (Ore.) Rodeo, as well
as placing at the World’s Oldest
Rodeo in Prescott, Ariz., the
entirety of Irwin’s Christmascome-early
rodeo sprint came
to be a bountiful $24,504.
Not only was Irwin
the most dominating of bulldoggers, but his jump from 37th to 11th in the
The pride of Robertsdale, Ala., steer wrestler Kyle Irwin’s average win at the St. Paul (Ore.) Rodeo contributed to his
Cowboy Christmas bankroll of $24,504.
WEATHER GUARD® PRCA World Standings was the largest of any cowboy
as of July 11. Summing up his newfound home in the world standings, Irwin
paraphrased his holiday spoils in four easy words.
“That was much needed,” he said.
At the Cody Stampede, Irwin’s winning run of 3.8-seconds finished a
half-second short of the fastest time ever recorded at Stampede Park, a catch
that notched him $8,934.
“You hear Cinderella stories about Cody from everybody that’s ever had
success there, and for me to come out and win it, that was great,” the 27-yearold
said. “I was just looking to place because it pays so well, and when they told
me I was 3.8 and winning it, I was ecstatic. It’s another one of those rodeos that
was on my bucket list, so I’m grateful to win it.”
