Perhaps society should examine the role of security and allocate more importance to investments placed in it? Technology is a big part of this, but the security officer will always be the essential director and decision-maker requiring increasingly higher quality training and better tools in order to do the job well. Many diligent companies are working hard to raise both the profile and skill sets of practising security officers. To really capitalise on this effort, though, the industry needs to recognise those officers with the same level of respect afforded to police officers and embrace their ability to use modern technology effectively. 58 www.risk-uk.com
