Appointments Helen Ball Helen Ball has been promoted to Assistant Commissioner at the Metropolitan Police Service by newly-installed Commissioner Cressida Dick and will now lead the Met’s Professionalism portfolio. Assistant Commissioner Ball’s responsibilities will include management of the Metropolitan Police Service’s Directorate of Professional Standards, the Inquiry and Review Support Group, the Specialist Crime Review Group, general operational support services and ongoing training. Ball began her policing career with the Metropolitan Police Service back in 1987, undertaking various uniform and detective roles. Ball was promoted to Commander of the Operational Command Unit in 2007. Three years later, Ball joined Thames Valley Police as Assistant Chief Constable, re-joining the Met in 2012 in the role of Deputy Assistant Commissioner for Territorial Policing. In 2013, Ball became the Senior National Coordinator for Counter-Terrorism Policing ahead of a secondment to the College of Policing in 2016 as strategic leadership advisor. A formal start date for the Metropolitan Police Service’s new Assistant Commissioner will be confirmed shortly. Metropolitan Police Service Commissioner Cressida Dick commented: “I’m delighted to appoint Helen Ball as our new Assistant Commissioner for Professionalism. Her input and expertise will be invaluable as we seek to transform and provide the best possible service for Londoners.” Paula Warburton Integrated security solutions developer TDSi has announced the appointment of Paula Warburton as the Poole-based business’ new finance and operations director. Going forward, Warburton’s vital role will see her lead the company’s financial, commercial and operations development. Warburton joins a growing team at TDSi’s Dorset hq. In recent months, the company has appointed a new finance assistant, Luke Kleszcz, and (as reported in Risk UK’s July edition) an experienced marketing manager, namely Francesca Meyrick. Surti will now be responsible for Colt’s overall information and cyber security strategy, while also heading up the company’s Computer Security Incident Response Team. As a provider of network services for some of the world’s biggest brands, a responsible focus on information security forms a core part of Colt Technology Service’s customer experience. Under Surti’s direction, the business will strengthen its information security strategy by continually enhancing and embeddng cyber risk management and logical security practices into all company activities. As CISO, Surti will lead the assessment, evaluation, prioritisation and mitigation of the internal and external security threat to Colt’s products, network infrastructure and business information systems. “With the ever-present risk of cyber attack and increasing pressure from global threats, secure network connectivity matters now more than ever to organisations across all markets and industries,” explained Surti. A highly respected security expert with over 15 years’ experience, Surti joins Colt from TSB where he served as the company’s first CISO. At TSB, Surti was accountable for key duties including information risk management, security consultancy and, indeed, security architecture. Accountant in 2000 and assuming her first role as a financial director back in 2007. Prior to joining TDSi, Warburton worked as the group financial director for a prominent property and construction surveying services organisation. John Davies, managing director of TDSi, commented: “TDSi is a fast-moving international business that requires strong financial leadership.
