Meanwhile, the producers have
garnered rave reviews from top
film magazines including Variety,
The Hollywood Reporter, and
Screen daily.
Variety wrote, “Directed with
an assured and graceful touch
that evokes the elegiac tone
of a requiem, Mostofa Sarwar
Farooki proves he’s a singular
voice in Bangladeshi cinema.” It
also heavily praised Irrfan Khan’s
performance as well as special
mentioning Nusrat Imrose Tisha.
The Hollywood Reporter
called the film “Thoroughly
modern. A sobering, engrossing
separation drama.” Screen Daily
described it as a “sensitive and
nuanced film” with a heavy
praise for its “arresting visuals,
universally strong cast, and
evocative music.”
Firoza Begum’s legendary status
as the preeminent Nazrul Sangeet
artist can be the subject of many
television programs, as it has
been. But the late singer’s family
is also full of talented people
who are established names
in their own fields, the most
known being her sons Shafin
and Hamin Ahmed, who have
since long engraved their names
permanently in the history of
Bangladeshi music. NTV took the
initiative as part of Eid program
to bring together the family
members of the late singer in a
special show.
Brainchild of the Head of
Programme of NTV Mostafa
Kamal Sayed and titled Galpo
Shudhu Galpo Noy, the program
is set to feature the story of this
extraordinary family for the first
time.
Producer for the program
Jahangir Chowdhury said,
“We had planned to telecast a
programme like this when Firoza
Begum was alive. But it did not
happen for practical reasons. But
now we are finally doing it.”
Other than Hamin and
Shafin Ahmed, Firoza Begum’s
siblings and their children will be
featured in the program.
“The programme has
portrayed how Firoza Begum’s
next generation is directly or
indirectly engaged with music,”
said Shusmita Anis, Firoza
Begum’s nephew and a wellknown
singer.
“We have engaged in a friendly
conversation with our cousin
Shafin Ahmed, Hamin and Rubaba
Doula in the program. We have
discussed music and performed as
well,” she further added. Shusmita
said she liked the program and
called it “unique.”
Senior members of the family
have also been featured. The
programme is anchored by
popular Nazrul Sangeet artist
Sadia Afrin Mallik. It will be
broadcast on September 7 and 8
at 9 pm, the 6th and 7th days of
Eid-ul-Adha.•
The cast members
of American
fantasy television
drama Game of
Thrones have
pretty interesting
expertises in their
CVs. Jerome Flynn, who
plays Bronn, pulled off
three number one singles during
his career with old pop duo called
Robson & Jerome; Rory McCann,
who plays The Hound, was the
star of a porridge advert; and Paul
Kaye, who plays Thoros of Myr,
appeared as a trolling celebrity
interviewer called Dennis Pennis.
The actor, who plays Tyrion
Lannister aka the Imp – one of
the author’s finest creations and
the most popular character from
the fantasy television series, was
the front-man of a punk/rap/funk
band called
Whizzy in the
early 90s.
Recently,
NME has
released
some
pictures
of the actor
playing with the
band. However, it’s
unfortunate for his fans
that there is no video footage of
this. The band played punk/rap/
funk music and sounded a bit like
Red Hot Chilli Peppers.
Talking about his Whizzy days,
Peter Dinklage reportedly told, “I
was pretty angry back then.”
Peter Dinklage, who received
the Primetime Emmy and the
Golden Globe Award for his
portrayal of a member of House
Lannister, also played the cornet,
besides singing in the band.•
