Beaky and Albert were also both mad on reading<br />

and scribbling out stories and poems. Albert’s house<br />

was stuffed full of books and he had helped Beaky<br />

write the script for the DDC’s A Christmas Carol.<br />

‘Would you mind ...?’ asked Cressida. Writing<br />

the script was a big job and she didn’t like to ask<br />

too much.<br />

‘Just have a go at writing the ...’ added Sophie.<br />

‘... have a go at writing the script - again!’ finished<br />

Beaky her eyes shining with delight. She tapped<br />

her nose, looked about her, then said, ‘It would be a<br />

great honour!’<br />

Susie gave Beaky a hug.<br />

‘You’re thuch a thtar Beaky! But,’ she added, her<br />

voice now serious, ‘I do think we need the thcwipt<br />

thoon. We’ve got to thtart learning our lineth and I<br />

take ageth and ageth and ageth to learn my lineth and<br />

the play is going to be at the end of term isn’t it<br />

Creth?’<br />

‘Yes. Curtain up on the last weekend of term,’<br />

agreed Cressida.<br />

‘Leaping liquorice! That’s only seven weeks away!’<br />

said Harry.<br />

‘Six,’ corrected Cress, handing out the rehearsal<br />

timetable.‘Could you get the script written for our<br />

rehearsal next Saturday Beaky?’<br />
