‘That sounds like three panels hinged together. I’ll<br />

get on making the frames for that while you keep<br />

painting!’<br />

Uncle Max hummed happily to himself as he<br />

sawed and hammered and measured and sawed and<br />

hammered a bit more.<br />

By the end of the afternoon the flats were finished<br />

and Uncle Max had made three panels and hinged<br />

them together so they could be opened and closed.<br />

‘All we need now is a big cardboard box to make<br />

the cupboard to lock Grandmama in.’<br />

‘Unless we just cut a window in one of the panels<br />

and she could stick her head through there,’ suggested<br />

John.<br />

‘Chippy idea!’ said Uncle Max and within seconds<br />

a hole was created. ‘Time to get drawing. Rough out<br />

the outlines of everything in Grandmama’s cottage<br />

before you start painting any detail.’<br />

This was a good idea but not that easy to do.<br />

‘The fireplace looks like a dustbin,’ said Cressie.<br />

‘And the rocking chair looks more like a horse,’ said<br />

Sophie.<br />

‘I think my cupboard looks like a coffin,’ added<br />

John critically.<br />

‘I’m exhausted!’ said Sophie.<br />

‘Time for tea!’ said John who was always hungry.<br />
