‘That sounds like three panels hinged together. I’ll
get on making the frames for that while you keep
painting!’
Uncle Max hummed happily to himself as he
sawed and hammered and measured and sawed and
hammered a bit more.
By the end of the afternoon the flats were finished
and Uncle Max had made three panels and hinged
them together so they could be opened and closed.
‘All we need now is a big cardboard box to make
the cupboard to lock Grandmama in.’
‘Unless we just cut a window in one of the panels
and she could stick her head through there,’ suggested
John.
‘Chippy idea!’ said Uncle Max and within seconds
a hole was created. ‘Time to get drawing. Rough out
the outlines of everything in Grandmama’s cottage
before you start painting any detail.’
This was a good idea but not that easy to do.
‘The fireplace looks like a dustbin,’ said Cressie.
‘And the rocking chair looks more like a horse,’ said
Sophie.
‘I think my cupboard looks like a coffin,’ added
John critically.
‘I’m exhausted!’ said Sophie.
‘Time for tea!’ said John who was always hungry.
