Albert had taken out all the old milk crates from<br />

the open space at the back of Miranda and welded<br />

two armchairs and a sofa to the floor which made it<br />

a most luxurious ride for passengers. To stop it being<br />

too windy a ride he had fixed a curtain at half height<br />

so passengers would have warm knees but still be able<br />

to admire the view. All in all it was a most comfortable<br />

way of travelling.<br />

‘Bye Beaky,’ waved Albert, putting on his Sunny<br />

Smiles Dairy milkman’s cap and driving off, whistling.<br />

Whistling and wearing the milkman’s cap were two<br />

habits that he could not shake off when he was at the<br />

wheel of Miranda. ‘Come round tomorrow and we’ll<br />

have another go at the script!’<br />

‘Bye Grandpa,’ said Beaky and she watched<br />

Miranda stop and start as she made her way jerkily<br />

down the lane to deliver the five old people back to<br />

the doorstep of Battleaxe Barracks.<br />
